The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Acts 4:23-37

23 And being let go, they went to their own company and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. 24 And when they heard this, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said, "Lord, Thou art God who hast made heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them, 25 who by the mouth of Thy servant David hast said,

'Why did the heathen rage,
and the people imagine vain things?
26 The kings of the earth stood up,
and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ.'

27 For truly against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou hast anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, had gathered together 28 to do whatsoever Thy hand and Thy counsel determined before to be done. 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings, and grant unto Thy servants that with all boldness they may speak Thy Word, 30 by stretching forth Thine hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of Thy holy child Jesus." 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and of one soul; neither said any one of them that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked, for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold 35 and laid them down at the apostles' feet. And distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. 36 And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, "the Son of Consolation"), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, 37 having land, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.

Psalm 93

1 The LORD reigneth;
He is clothed with majesty.
The LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith He hath girded Himself.
The world also is established, that it cannot be moved.
2 Thy throne is established of old;
Thou art from everlasting.

3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their waves.
4 The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters,
yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.
5 Thy testimonies are very sure;
holiness becometh Thine house, O LORD, for ever.

Words of Worship - John 3:14-15

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:1-15

1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 The same came to Jesus by night and said unto Him, "Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, unless God be with him." 3 Jesus answered and said unto him,

"Verily, verily I say unto thee, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."

4 Nicodemus said unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered,

"Verily, verily I say unto thee, unless a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, `Ye must be born again.' 8 The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto Him, "How can these things be?" 10 Jesus answered and said unto him,

"Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11 Verily, verily I say unto thee, we speak what we know and testify what we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things? 13 And no man hath ascended up to Heaven, but He that came down from Heaven, even the Son of Man who is in Heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 7:9

Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry,
for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

 "The first of all the commandments is: `Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength;' this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this: `Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
