The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
Acts 8:26-40
26 And the angel of the Lord spoke unto Philip, saying,
"Arise and go toward the south unto the road that goeth down from Jerusalem
into Gaza, which is desert." 27 And he arose and went. And behold, a man of
Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians,
who had charge of all her treasure and had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 was
returning; and sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. 29
Then the Spirit said unto Philip, "Go near and join thyself to this
chariot." 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him reading the
prophet Isaiah, and said, "Understandest thou what thou readest?" 31
And he said, "How can I, unless some man should guide me?" And he
besought Philip that he would come up and sit with him. 32 The place of the
Scripture from which he read was this:
"He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;
and like a lamb before his shearer is dumb, so opened He not His mouth.
33 In His humiliation, His judgment was taken away.
And who shall declare His generation? For His life is taken from the
earth."
34 And the eunuch answered Philip and said, "I pray thee,
of whom speaketh the prophet this? Of himself, or of some other man?" 35
Then Philip opened his mouth and began at the same Scripture, and preached unto
him Jesus.
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain
water; and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What doth hinder me from
being baptized?" 37 And Philip said, "If thou believest with all thine
heart, thou mayest." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God." 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still,
and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he
baptized him. 39 And when they had come up out of the water, the Spirit of the
Lord caught away Philip. And the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way
rejoicing. 40 But Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through, he preached
in all the cities until he came to Caesarea.
Psalm 66:8-20
8 O bless our God, ye people;
and make the voice of His praise to be heard,
9 who holdeth our soul in life
and alloweth not our feet to be moved.
10 For Thou, O God, hast tried us;
Thou hast tried us as silver is tried.
11 Thou broughtest us into the net;
Thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads;
we went through fire and through water, but Thou broughtest us out
into a fruitful place.
13 I will go into Thy house with burnt offerings;
I will pay Thee my vows,14 which my lips have uttered and my mouth
hath spoken when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer unto Thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings
with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks and goats.
16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God,
and I will declare what He hath done for my soul.
17 I cried unto Him with my mouth,
and He was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I regard iniquity in my heart,
the Lord will not hear me.
19 But verily God hath heard me;
He hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God, who hath not turned away my
prayer,
nor His mercy from me!
Words of Worship - John 6:51
I am the living Bread
which came down from Heaven. If any man eat of this Bread, he shall
live for ever; and the Bread that I will give is My flesh, which I
will give for the life of the world."
John 6:41-51
41 The Jews then murmured at Him, because He said,
"I am the Bread which came down from Heaven." 42 And they
said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and
mother we know? How is it then that he saith, `I came down from
Heaven'?" 43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them,
"Murmur not among
yourselves. 44 No man can come to Me unless the Father who hath sent
Me draw him; and I will raise him up at the Last Day. 45 It is written
in the Prophets: `And they shall all be taught by God.' Every man
therefore that hath heard and hath learned from the Father cometh unto
Me. 46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save He that is of God;
He hath seen the Father. 47 Verily, verily I say unto you, He that
believeth in Me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that Bread of Life. 49
Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the
Bread which cometh down from Heaven, that a man may eat thereof and
not die. 51 I am the living Bread which came down from Heaven. If any
man eat of this Bread, he shall live for ever; and the Bread that I
will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the
world."
Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 7:13
Consider the work of God; for who can make straight that which He hath made
crooked?

And if ye lend to them from
whom ye hope to receive, what thanks have
ye? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But
love ye
your enemies, and do good and lend, hoping for nothing in return;
and your
reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest;
for He is
kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
