The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Exodus 14:13-31

13 And Moses said unto the people, "Fear ye not. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will show to you today; for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." 15 And the LORD said unto Moses, "Why criest thou unto Me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. 16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them; and I will get Myself honor above Pharaoh and above all his host, above his chariots and above his horsemen. 18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD when I have gotten Myself honor above Pharaoh, above his chariots, and above his horsemen."

19 And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face and stood behind them. 20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these, so that the one came not near the other all the night.

21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground, and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24 And it came to pass that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians. 25 And He took off their chariot wheels, that they drove them heavily, so that the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians."

26 And the LORD said unto Moses, "Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen." 27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared. And the Egyptians fled against it, and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. There remained not so much as one of them. 29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left.

30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore. 31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians; and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD and His servant Moses.

Exodus 15:1-18

1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spoke, saying,

"I will sing unto the LORD, for He hath triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea.
2 The LORD is my strength and song,
and He has become my salvation;
He is my God, and I will prepare Him a habitation;
my father's God, and I will exalt Him.
3 The LORD is a man of war;
the LORD is His name.
4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath He cast into the sea;
his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.
5 The depths have covered them; they sank into the bottom as a stone.

6 Thy right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power;
Thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.
7 And in the greatness of Thine excellency Thou hast overthrown them that rose up against Thee;
Thou sentest forth Thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.
8 And with the blast of Thy nostrils the waters were gathered together,
the floods stood upright as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said, `I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil;
my lust shall be satisfied upon them.
I will draw my sword;
my hand shall destroy them.'
10 Thou didst blow with Thy wind, the sea covered them;
they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 "Who is like unto Thee, O LORD, among the gods?
Who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12 Thou stretchedst out Thy right hand;
the earth swallowed them.
13 Thou in Thy mercy hast led forth the people whom Thou hast redeemed;
Thou hast guided them in Thy strength unto Thy holy habitation.

14 "The people shall hear and be afraid;
sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.
15 Then the chiefs of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab,
trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.
16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them. By the greatness of Thine arm they shall be as still as a stone,
till Thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, whom Thou hast purchased.
17 Thou shalt bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Thine inheritance,
in the place, O LORD, which Thou hast made for Thee to dwell in, in the sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established.
18 The LORD shall reign for ever and ever."

Roman 6:1-11

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid! How shall we, who are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, so we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this: that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over Him. 10 For in that He died, He died unto sin once; but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Psalm 118

1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good,
for His mercy endureth for ever!
2 Let Israel now say that His mercy endureth for ever.
3 Let the house of Aaron now say
that His mercy endureth for ever.
4 Let them that fear the LORD now say
that His mercy endureth for ever.

5 I called upon the LORD in distress;
the LORD answered me,
and set me in an ample place.
6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do unto me?
7 The LORD taketh my part among them that help me;
therefore shall I see what I desire
upon them that hate me.
8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put
confidence in man.
9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put
confidence in princes.

10 All the nations compassed me about,
but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.
11 They compassed me about, yea, they compassed
me about;
but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
12 They compassed me about like bees,
they are quenched as the fire of thorns;
for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

13 Thou hast thrust sorely at me that I might fall,
but the LORD helped me.
14 The LORD is my strength and song,
and has become my salvation.

15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles
of the righteous;
the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.
16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted;
the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live
and declare the works of the LORD.
18 The LORD hath chastened me sorely,
but He hath not given me over unto death.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD-
20 this gate of the LORD, into which the righteous
shall enter.
21 I will praise Thee,
for Thou hast heard me and art become my salvation.

22 The stone which the builders refused
has become the head stone of the corner.
23 This is the LORD'S doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.

25 Save now, I beseech Thee, O LORD;
O LORD, I beseech Thee, send now prosperity.
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD!
We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.
27 God is the LORD, who hath shown us light;
bind the sacrifice with cords,
even unto the horns of the altar.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise Thee;
Thou art my God, I will exalt Thee.

29 O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good;
for His mercy endureth for ever!

Matthew 28:1-10

1 At the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from Heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards shook and became as dead men. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, "Fear ye not, for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and behold, He goeth before you into Galilee. There shall ye see Him. Lo, I have told you." 8 And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.

9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying,

"All hail."

And they came, and held Him by the feet, and worshiped Him. 10 Then said Jesus unto them,

"Be not afraid. Go tell My brethren to go into Galilee, and there shall they see Me."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 17:29

How great is the lovingkindness of the Lord our God,
and His compassion unto such as turn unto Him in holiness!

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Luke 12:4-5

"And I say unto you, My friends, be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him that, after He hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, fear Him!
