The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Acts 13:26-43

26 "Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. 27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they knew Him not nor yet understood the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath day, have fulfilled them in condemning Him. 28 And though they found no cause for death in Him, yet they asked Pilate that He should be slain. 29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a sepulcher. 30 But God raised Him from the dead; 31 and He was seen many days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses unto the people. 32 And we declare unto you glad tidings of the promise which was made unto the fathers: 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that He hath raised up Jesus again, as it is also written in the second Psalm:

'Thou art My Son;
this day have I begotten Thee.'

34 And concerning that He raised Him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, He said thus:
'I will give you the sure mercies of David.'

35 Therefore He saith also in another Psalm:

'Thou shalt not suffer Thine Holy One to see corruption.'

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption. 37 But He whom God raised again saw no corruption. 38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins; 39 and by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the Law of Moses. 40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken of in the Prophets:

41 'Behold, ye despisers,
and wonder and perish;
for I work a work your days,
a work in which you shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.'"

42 And when the Jews had gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. 43 Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

Psalm 2

1 Why do the heathen rage,
and the people devise a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together,
against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
3 "Let us break Their bonds asunder,
and cast away Their cords from us."
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh;
the LORD shall hold them in derision.
5 Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath,
and vex them in His sore displeasure:
6 "Yet have I set My King
upon My holy hill of Zion."
7 "I will declare the decree:
The LORD hath said unto Me, 'Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee.
8 Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heathen for Thine inheritance,
and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'"

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings;
be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear
and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
lest He be angry and ye perish from the way,
when His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him.

Words of Worship - John 14:6b

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

John 14:1-6

1 "Let not your heart be troubled. Ye believe in God; believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself, that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know."

5 Thomas said unto Him, "Lord, we know not whither Thou goest; and how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus said unto him,

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 17:29

How great is the lovingkindness of the Lord our God,
and His compassion unto such as turn unto Him in holiness!

"And why call ye Me, `Lord, Lord,' and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to Me, and heareth My sayings and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like: He is like a man who built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation on a rock; and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house and could not shake it, for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that built a house without a foundation upon the earth, against which the stream beat vehemently, and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great."
