The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Acts 4:13-22

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took note concerning them that they had been with Jesus. 14 And beholding the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. 15 But when they had commanded them to go outside the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 saying, "What shall we do to these men? For indeed, that a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all those who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17 But so that it spread no further among the people, let us strictly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name." 18 And they called them back and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, "Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye; 20 for we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." 21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing for which they might punish them, because of the people; for all men glorified God for that which had been done. 22 For the man was over forty years old on whom this miracle of healing was shown.

Psalm 118:14-29

14 The LORD is my strength and song,
and has become my salvation.

15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles
of the righteous;
the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.
16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted;
the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live
and declare the works of the LORD.
18 The LORD hath chastened me sorely,
but He hath not given me over unto death.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD-
20 this gate of the LORD, into which the righteous
shall enter.
21 I will praise Thee,
for Thou hast heard me and art become my salvation.

22 The stone which the builders refused
has become the head stone of the corner.
23 This is the LORD'S doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.

25 Save now, I beseech Thee, O LORD;
O LORD, I beseech Thee, send now prosperity.
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD!
We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.
27 God is the LORD, who hath shown us light;
bind the sacrifice with cords,
even unto the horns of the altar.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise Thee;
Thou art my God, I will exalt Thee.

29 O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good;
for His mercy endureth for ever!

Words of Worship - Psalm 118:24

This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Mark 16:9-20

9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven devils. 10 And she went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And they, when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, believed not. 12 After that, He appeared in another form unto two of them as they walked and went into the country. 13 And they went and told it unto the rest, but neither did they believe them.

14 Afterward He appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat; and He upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not those who had seen Him after He was risen. 15 And He said unto them,

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe: In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into Heaven, and sat at the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word with signs following. Amen.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 15:9-10

Praise is not seemly in the mouth of a sinner,
for it was not sent him from the Lord.
For praise shall be uttered in wisdom,
and the Lord will prosper it.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Luke 5:37-39

And no man putteth new wine into old wineskins; else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins shall perish. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. 3o man also, having drunk old wine, straightway desireth new; for he saith, `The old is better.'"
