The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Acts 2:14-33

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said unto them, "Ye men of Judea and all ye who dwell in Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words. 15 For these are not drunken as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day; 16 but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 `And it shall come to pass
in the last days, saith God,
I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh;
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My servants and on My handmaidens I will pour out in those days My Spirit,
and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath --
blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood
before that great and notable Day of the Lord come.
21 And it shall come to pass
that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

22 "Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man approved of God among you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did through Him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know -- 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate will and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. 24 But God hath raised Him up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. 25 For David speaketh concerning Him:

'I beheld the Lord always before my face,
for He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.
26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad;
moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope,
27 because Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell,
neither wilt Thou suffer Thine Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life;
Thou shalt make me full of joy with Thy countenance.'

29 "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn an oath to him that from the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne, 31 David, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of Christ that `His soul was not left in hell, neither did His flesh see corruption.' 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore, being exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, He hath shed forth this which ye now see and hear.

Psalm 16

1 Preserve me, O God,
for in Thee do I put my trust.
2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD,
"Thou art my Lord; my goodness extendeth not to Thee,
3 but to the saints that are on the earth,
and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight."

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied,
that hasten after another god;
their drink offerings of blood will I not offer,
nor take up their names upon my lips.

5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup;
Thou maintainest my lot.
6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
yea, I have a goodly heritage.
7 I will bless the LORD who hath given me counsel;
my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the LORD always before me;
because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my spirit rejoiceth;
my flesh also shall rest in hope.
10 For Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell;
neither wilt Thou suffer Thine Holy One to see corruption.
11 Thou wilt show me the path of life; in Thy presence is fullness of joy;
at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

1 Peter 1:17-21

17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. 18 For ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, such as silver and gold, from your vain way of living which ye received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, 20 who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you. 21 By Him ye believe in God, who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God.

Words of Worship - Luke 24:32

And they said to one another, "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us on the way and while He opened to us the Scriptures?"

Luke 24:13-35

13 And behold, two of them were going that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about seven miles. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass that while they communed and reasoned together, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were held, that they should not know Him. 17 And He said unto them,

"What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another as ye walk and are sad?"

18 And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto Him, "Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?" 19 And He said unto them,

"What things?"

And they said unto Him, "Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people; 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death and have crucified Him. 21 But we trusted that it had been He who should have redeemed Israel. And besides all this, today is the third day since these things were done. 22 Yea, and certain women also of our company, who were early at the sepulcher, made us astonished. 23 And when they found not His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that He was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the sepulcher and found it even so as the women had said, but Him they saw not." 25 Then He said unto them,

"O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?"

27 And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

28 And they drew nigh unto the village whither they were going, and He made as though He would have gone further. 29 But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening and the day is far spent." And He went in to tarry with them.

30 And it came to pass, as He sat at meat with them, He took bread and blessed it, and broke and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened and they knew Him. And He vanished out of their sight.

32 And they said to one another, "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us on the way and while He opened to us the Scriptures?" 33 And they rose up that same hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them, 34 saying, "The Lord is risen indeed and hath appeared to Simon!" 35 And they told what things were done on the way, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 19:19

The knowledge of the commandments of the Lord is the doctrine of life,
and they that do things that please Him shall receive the fruit of the tree of immortality.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Luke 14:12-14

Then said He also to him who bade Him,

"When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen nor thy rich neighbors, lest they also bid thee again and a recompense be made to thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee. For thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just."
