The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Acts 6:8-15

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. 9 Then there arose certain from the synagogue which is called the Synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and those of Cilicia and of Asia, and they disputed with Stephen. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke. 11 Then they suborned men who said, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God." 12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and came upon him and caught him, and brought him to the council. 13 And they set up false witnesses who said, "This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law; 14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered to us." 15 And all who sat on the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as though it were the face of an angel.

Psalm 119:17-32

17 Deal bountifully with Thy servant,
that I may live and keep Thy word.
18 Open Thou mine eyes,
that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law.
19 I am a stranger on the earth;
hide not Thy commandments from me.
20 My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath for Thy judgments at all times.
21 Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, that err from Thy commandments.
22 Remove from me reproach and contempt,
for I have kept Thy testimonies.
23 Princes also sat and spoke against me, but Thy servant meditated on Thy statutes.
24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.

25 My soul cleaveth unto the dust;
quicken Thou me according to Thy word.
26 I have declared my ways, and Thou heardest me;
teach me Thy statutes.
27 Make me to understand the way of Thy precepts;
so shall I talk of Thy wondrous works.
28 My soul melteth from heaviness;
strengthen Thou me according to Thy word.
29 Remove from me the way of lying,
and grant me Thy law graciously.
30 I have chosen the way of truth;
Thy judgments have I laid before me.
31 I have held fast unto Thy testimonies;
O LORD, put me not to shame.
32 I will run in the way of Thy commandments,
when Thou shalt enlarge my heart.

Words of Worship - Matthew 4:4b

"It is written: 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.'"

John 6:22-29

22 The day following, when the people who stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save the one into which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not gone with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone 23 (however there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they had eaten bread after the Lord had given thanks)" 24 when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither His disciples, they also took boats and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. 25 And when they had found Him on the other side of the sea, they said unto Him, "Rabbi, when camest thou hither?" 26 Jesus answered them and said,

"Verily, verily I say unto you, ye seek Me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of Man shall give unto you; for on Him hath God the Father set His seal."

28 Then said they unto Him, "What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered and said unto them,

"This is the work of God: that ye believe in Him whom He hath sent."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 17:25a

Return unto the Lord, and forsake thy sins;

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Luke 6:38

Give, and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete, therewith it shall be measured to you again."
