from the The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons Acts 2:14-33 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said unto them, "Ye men of Judea and all ye who dwell in Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words. 15 For these are not drunken as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day; 16 but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel:
22 "Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man approved of God among you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did through Him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know -- 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate will and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. 24 But God hath raised Him up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. 25 For David speaketh concerning Him:
29 "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn an oath to him that from the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne, 31 David, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of Christ that `His soul was not left in hell, neither did His flesh see corruption.' 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore, being exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, He hath shed forth this which ye now see and hear. Psalm 16
1 Peter 1:17-21 17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. 18 For ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, such as silver and gold, from your vain way of living which ye received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, 20 who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you. 21 By Him ye believe in God, who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God. Words of Worship - Luke 24:32 And they said to one another, "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us on the way and while He opened to us the Scriptures?" Luke 24:13-35 13 And behold, two of them were going that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about seven miles. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass that while they communed and reasoned together, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were held, that they should not know Him. 17 And He said unto them,
18 And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto Him, "Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?" 19 And He said unto them,
And they said unto Him, "Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people; 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death and have crucified Him. 21 But we trusted that it had been He who should have redeemed Israel. And besides all this, today is the third day since these things were done. 22 Yea, and certain women also of our company, who were early at the sepulcher, made us astonished. 23 And when they found not His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that He was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the sepulcher and found it even so as the women had said, but Him they saw not." 25 Then He said unto them,
27 And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. 28 And they drew nigh unto the village whither they were going, and He made as though He would have gone further. 29 But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening and the day is far spent." And He went in to tarry with them. 30 And it came to pass, as He sat at meat with them, He took bread and blessed it, and broke and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened and they knew Him. And He vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said to one another, "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us on the way and while He opened to us the Scriptures?" 33 And they rose up that same hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them, 34 saying, "The Lord is risen indeed and hath appeared to Simon!" 35 And they told what things were done on the way, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.
