The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Joshua 3:7-17

7 And the LORD said unto Joshua, "This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. 8 And thou shalt command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, `When ye have come to the brink of the water of the Jordan, ye shall stand still in the Jordan.'" 9 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, "Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God." 10 And Joshua said, "Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites. 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into the Jordan. 12 Now therefore, take for yourselves twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man. 13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand up in a heap."

14 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents to pass over the Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, 15 and as those who bore the ark had come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark were dipped in the brim of the water (for the Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest), 16 that the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan. And those who came down toward the sea of the plain, even the Salt Sea, failed and were cut off; and the people passed over right against Jericho. 17 And the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people had passed clean over the Jordan.

Psalm 114

1 When Israel went out of Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of a strange language,
2 Judah was His sanctuary,
and Israel His dominion.
3 The sea saw it, and fled;
Jordan was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams,
and the little hills like lambs.

5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest?
Thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams,
and ye little hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the LORD,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turned the rock into a standing water,
the flint into a fountain of waters.

Words of Worship - Psalm 119:135

Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant, and teach me Thy statutes.

Matthew 18:21-35

21 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?" 22 And Jesus said unto him,

"I say not unto thee, until seven times, but until seventy times seven.

23 "Therefore is the Kingdom of Heaven likened unto a certain king who would settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But inasmuch as he could not pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down and did homage to him, saying, `Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.' 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred pence. And he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, `Pay me what thou owest.' 29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, `Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.' 30 And he would not, but went and cast him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after he had called him, said unto him, `O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me. 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?' 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall My heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother's trespasses."

Matthew 19:1

1 And it came to pass that when Jesus had finished these sayings, He departed from Galilee and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 31:27

Wine is as good as life to a man, if it be drunk moderately.
What life is then to a man that is without wine? For it was made to make men glad.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 18:1-3

At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, and said,

"Verily I say unto you, unless ye be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
