The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Joshua 24:1-13

1 And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel and for their heads and for their judges and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God. 2 And Joshua said unto all the people, "Thus saith the LORD God of Israel: `Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the river in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor; and they served other gods. 3 And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the river and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed and gave him Isaac. 4 And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau; and I gave unto Esau Mount Seir to possess it, but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt. 5 I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them; and afterward I brought you out. 6 And I brought your fathers out of Egypt; and ye came unto the sea, and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red Sea. 7 And when they cried unto the LORD, He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them and covered them. And your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt; and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season. 8 And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who dwelt on the other side of the Jordan. And they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land, and I destroyed them from before you. 9 Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you. 10 But I would not hearken unto Balaam. Therefore he blessed you still; so I delivered you out of his hand. 11 And ye went over the Jordan and came unto Jericho; and the men of Jericho fought against you -- the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. And I delivered them into your hand. 12 And I sent the hornet before you which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites, but not with thy sword nor with thy bow. 13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labor and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them. Of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.'

Psalm 136

1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good,
for His mercy endureth for ever.
2 O give thanks unto the God of gods,
for His mercy endureth for ever.
3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
4 to Him who alone doeth great wonders,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
5 to Him that by wisdom made the heavens,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
6 to Him that stretched out the earth above the waters,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
7 to Him that made great lights,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
8 the sun to rule by day,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
9 the moon and stars to rule by night,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
10 to Him that smote Egypt in their firstborn,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
11 and brought out Israel from among them,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
12 with a strong hand and with a stretched out arm,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
13 to Him who divided the Red Sea into parts,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
14 and made Israel to pass through the midst of it,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
15 but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
16 to Him who led His people through the wilderness,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
17 to Him who smote great kings,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
18 and slew famous kings,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
19 Sihon king of the Amorites,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
20 and Og the king of Bashan,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
21 and gave their land as a heritage,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
22 even a heritage unto Israel His servant,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
23 who remembered us in our low estate,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
24 and hath redeemed us from our enemies,
for His mercy endureth for ever;
25 who giveth food to all flesh,
for His mercy endureth for ever:
26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven,
for His mercy endureth for ever!

Words of Worship - 1 Thessalonians 2:13

...ye received the Word of God, which ye heard from us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God,

Matthew 19:2-12

2 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.

3 The Pharisees also came unto Him, testing Him and saying unto Him, "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?" 4 And He answered and said unto them,

"Have ye not read, that He that made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, `For this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh'? 6 Therefore they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."

7 They said unto Him, "Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement and to put her away?" 8 He said unto them,

"Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say unto you, whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery; and whoso marrieth her who is put away doth commit adultery."

10 His disciples said unto Him, "If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry." 11 But He said unto them,

"All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. 12 For there are some eunuchs who were so born from their mother's womb, and there are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."

Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 10:21

For wisdom opened the mouth of the dumb, and made the tongues of those who cannot speak eloquent.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 18:4-6

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in My name, receiveth Me. But whoso shall cause one of these little ones who believe in Me to fall, it were better for him that a millstone were hung about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
