The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Ezekiel 24:15-24

15 Also the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 16 "Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke; yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down. 17 Forbear to cry. Make no mourning for the dead. Bind the attire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men." 18 So I spoke unto the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

19 And the people said unto me, "Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?" 20 Then I answered them, "The word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 21 Speak unto the house of Israel, `Thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword. 22 And ye shall do as I have done: Ye shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men. 23 And your attires shall be upon your heads and your shoes upon your feet. Ye shall not mourn nor weep, but ye shall pine away for your iniquities and mourn one toward another.

24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do. And when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.'

Deuteronomy 32:18-22

18 Of the Rock that begot thee thou art unmindful,
and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

19 "And when the LORD saw it, He abhorred them,
because of the provoking of His sons and of His daughters.
20 And He said: `I will hide My face from them,
I will see what their end shall be;
for they are a very froward generation,
children in whom is no faith.
21 They have moved Me to jealousy with that which is not God;
they have provoked Me to anger with their vanities.
And I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people;
I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

22 For a fire is kindled in Mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell,
and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

Words of Worship - Matthew 5:3

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Matthew 19:16-22

16 And behold, one came and said unto Him, "Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" 17 And He said unto him,

"Why callest thou Me good? There is none good but One, that is, God. But if thou wilt enter into Life, keep the commandments."

18 He said unto Him, "Which?" Jesus said,

"'Thou shalt do no murder; thou shalt not commit adultery; thou shalt not steal; thou shalt not bear false witness; 19 honor thy father and thy mother; and, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.'"

20 The young man said unto Him, "All these things have I kept from my youth up. What lack I yet?" 21 Jesus said unto him,

"If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell what thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven; and come and follow Me."

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 24:17-18

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth,
and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth,
lest the LORD see it and it displease Him,
and He turn away His wrath from him.
