The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
Ezekiel 28:1-10
1 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, 2 "Son
of man, say unto the prince of Tyre,
`Thus saith the Lord GOD: "`Because thine heart is lifted
up
and thou hast said, "I am a god, I sit in the seat of God in the midst of
the seas,"
yet thou art a man, and not God,
though thou set thine heart as the heart of God.
3 Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel;
there is no secret that they can hide from thee.
4 With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee
riches,
and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasuries.
5 By thy great wisdom and by thy traffic hast thou increased thy
riches,
and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches.
6 "`Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Because thou hast set thine
heart as the heart of God,
7 behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the
nations;
and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom,
and they shall defile thy brightness.
8 They shall bring thee down to the pit,
and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the
seas.
9 Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, "I am
God"?
But thou shalt be a man, and no god in the hand of him that slayeth thee.
10 Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of
strangers;
for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.'"
Deuteronomy 32:23-38
23 "`I will heap mischiefs upon them;
I will spend Mine arrows upon them.
24 They shall be burned with hunger, and devoured with burning
heat and with bitter destruction;
I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of
serpents of the dust.
25 The sword without and terror within shall destroy both the
young man and the virgin,
he suckling also with the man of gray hairs.
26 I said I would scatter them into corners,
I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men,
27 were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their
adversaries should behave themselves strangely,
and lest they should say, "Our hand is high; and the LORD hath
not done all this."'
28 "For they are a nation void of counsel,
neither is there any understanding in them.
29 O that they were wise, that they understood this,
that they would consider their latter end!
30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to
flight,
unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them
up?
31 For their rock is not as our Rock,
even our enemies themselves being judges.
32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom and of the fields of
Gomorrah;
their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter.
33 Their wine is the poison of dragons,
and the cruel venom of asps.
34 "`Is not this laid up in store with Me,
and sealed up among My treasures?
35 To Me belongeth vengeance and recompense;
their foot shall slide in due time;
for the day of their calamity is at hand,
and the things that shall come upon them make haste.'
36 "For the LORD shall judge His people and repent for His
servants,
when He seeth that their power is gone and there is none shut up or
left.
37 And He shall say: 'Where are their gods,
their rock in whom they trusted,
38 which ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their
drink offerings?
Let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.
Words of Worship - 2 Corinthians 8:9
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that,
though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through
His poverty might be rich.
Matthew 19:23-30
23 Then said Jesus unto
His disciples,
"Verily I
say unto you, that a rich man shall hardly enter into
the Kingdom of Heaven. 24 And again I say unto you,
it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a
needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom
of God."
25 When His disciples
heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, "Who
then can be saved?" 26 But Jesus beheld them and
said unto them,
"With men
this is impossible, but with God all things are
possible."
27 Then Peter answered and
said unto Him, "Behold, we have forsaken all and
followed Thee. What shall we have therefore?" 28 And
Jesus said unto them,
"Verily I
say unto you, that ye that have followed Me, in the
regeneration when the Son of Man shall sit on the
throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve
thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And
everyone that hath forsaken houses or brethren or
sisters or father or mother or wife or children or
lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a
hundredfold and shall inherit everlasting life. 30
But many that are first shall be last, and the last
shall be first.
Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 31:30
Drunkenness increaseth the rage of a fool till he offend;
it diminisheth strength and maketh wounds.

"The disciple is not
above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for
the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord.
