The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 Thessalonians 1

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy,

Unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ:

Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, 3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father, 4 knowing, brethren beloved, of your election by God. 5 For our Gospel came unto you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Ghost and in much assurance, as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And ye became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the Word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Ghost, 7 so that ye were examples to all who believe in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For from you sounded forth the Word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to Godward is spread abroad, so that we need not speak anything. 9 For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for His Son from Heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivered us from the wrath to come.

Psalm 149

1 Praise ye the LORD!
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints!

2 Let Israel rejoice in Him that made him;
let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise His name in the dance;
let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in His people;
He will beautify the meek with salvation.
5 Let the saints be joyful in glory;
let them sing aloud upon their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
and a twoedged sword in their hand
7 to execute vengeance upon the heathen,
and punishments upon the people;
8 to bind their kings with chains,
and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 to execute upon them the judgment written: this honor have all His saints.
Praise ye the LORD!

Words of Worship - John 10:27

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me.

Matthew 23:13-22

13 "But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. 14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers; therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

15 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

16 "Woe unto you, ye blind guides, who say, `Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.' 17 Ye fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? 18 And ye say, `Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is liable.' 19 Ye fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? 20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it and by all things thereon. 21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it and by Him that dwelleth therein. 22 And he that shall swear by Heaven, sweareth by the throne of God and by Him that sitteth thereon.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 32:14

Whoso feareth the Lord will receive His discipline,
and they that seek Him early shall find favor.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 23:11-12

But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
