The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 Thessalonians 2:1-8

1 For you yourselves, brethren, know that our coming among you was not in vain. 2 But even after we had suffered before and were shamefully treated at Philippi, as ye know, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the Gospel of God amidst much contention. 3 For our exhortation was not from deceit, nor from uncleanness, nor from guile; 4 but as we were allowed by God to be entrusted with the Gospel, even so we speak not as pleasing men, but God, who trieth our hearts. 5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is our witness), 6 nor sought we glory from men, neither from you nor yet from others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children. 8 So being affectionately desirous for you, we were willing to have imparted unto you not the Gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

Psalm 139:1-12

1 O LORD, Thou hast searched me and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising; Thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down,
and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue,
but lo, O LORD, Thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before,
and laid Thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7 Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit?
Or whither shall I flee from Thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there;
if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me,"
even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from Thee, but the night shineth as the day;
the darkness and the light are both alike to Thee.

Words of Worship - Hebrews 4:12

For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Matthew 23:23-26

23 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law: judgment, mercy, and faith. These ought ye to have done and not to leave the other undone. 24 Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

25 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. 26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 32:23

In every good work trust thy own soul,
for this is the keeping of the commandments.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 23:11-12

But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
