The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Isaiah 55:1-3

1 "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters; and he that hath no money, come ye, buy, and eat;
yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread,
and your labor for that which satisfieth not?
Hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good,
and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto Me;
hear, and your soul shall live;
and I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
even the sure mercies of David.

Psalm 145

1 I will extol Thee, my God, O King;
and I will bless Thy name for ever and ever.
2 Every day will I bless Thee,
and I will praise Thy name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised,
and His greatness is unsearchable.
4 One generation shall praise Thy works to another,
and shall declare Thy mighty acts.
5 I will speak of the glorious honor of Thy majesty,
and of Thy wondrous works.
6 And men shall speak of the might of Thy fearsome acts,
and I will declare Thy greatness.
7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of Thy great goodness,
and shall sing of Thy righteousness.

8 The LORD is gracious and full of compassion,
slow to anger and of great mercy.
9 The LORD is good to all,
and His tender mercies are over all His works.

10 All Thy works shall praise Thee, O LORD,
and Thy saints shall bless Thee.
11 They shall speak of the glory of Thy Kingdom
and talk of Thy power,
12 to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts
and the glorious majesty of His Kingdom.
13 Thy Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom,
and Thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

14 The LORD upholdeth all that fall,
and raiseth up all those that are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all wait upon Thee,
and Thou givest them their meat in due season.
16 Thou openest Thine hand,
and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways,
and holy in all His works.
18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon Him,
to all that call upon Him in truth.
19 He will fulfill the desire of them that fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and will save them.
20 The LORD preserveth all them that love Him,
but all the wicked will He destroy.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD,
and let all flesh bless His holy name for ever and ever.

Romans 8:31-39

31 What then shall we say of these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay anything to the charge against God's elect? It is God who justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ who died, yea rather, who is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

"For Thy sake we are killed all the day long;
we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Words of Worship - Matthew 4:4b

'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.'"

Matthew 14:13-21

13 When Jesus heard of it, He departed thence by boat into a desert place apart. And when the people had heard thereof, they followed Him on foot out of the cities. 14 And Jesus went forth and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick. 15 And when it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a desert place and the time is now past. Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves victuals." 16 But Jesus said unto them,

"They need not depart. Give ye them to eat."

17 And they said unto Him, "We have here but five loaves and two fishes." 18 And He said,

"Bring them hither to Me."

19 And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves and the two fishes; and looking up to Heaven, He blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 20 And they all ate and were filled. And they took up the fragments that remained, twelve baskets full. 21 And those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 9:6

For though a man be never so perfect among the children of men,
yet if Thy wisdom be not with him, he shall be regarded as nothing.

Many will say to Me in that Day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name, and in Thy name have cast out devils, and in Thy name done many wonderful works?' And then will I profess unto them, `I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.'
