The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Jeremiah 20:7-13

7 O LORD, Thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived;
Thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed.
I am in derision daily;
every one mocketh me.
8 For when I spoke, I cried out; I cried, "Violence and despoliation!"
because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me and a derision daily.
9 Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him,
nor speak any more in His name."
But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones;
and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not hold back.
10 For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side.
"Report," say they, "and we will report it!"
All in my company watched for my halting, saying, "Perhaps he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him;
and we shall take our revenge on him."
11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty, fearsome one;
therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail.
They shall be greatly ashamed, for they shall not prosper;
their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
12 But, O LORD of hosts, who triest the righteous and seest the reins and the heart,
let me see Thy vengeance on them, for unto Thee have I opened my cause.
13 Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD;
for He hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

Psalm 63

1 O God, Thou art my God;
early will I seek Thee.
My soul thirsteth for Thee,
my flesh longeth for Thee, in a dry and thirsty land where no water is,
2 to see Thy power and Thy glory as I have seen Thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because Thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise Thee.
4 Thus will I bless Thee while I live; I will lift up my hands in Thy name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness
and my mouth shall praise Thee with joyful lips,
6 when I remember Thee upon my bed,
and meditate on Thee in the night watches.
7 Because Thou hast been my help,
therefore in the shadow of Thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after Thee;
Thy right hand upholdeth me.

9 But those that seek my soul to destroy it shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword; they shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory,
but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

Romans 12:1-2

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Words of Worship - Ephesians 1:17-18

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Matthew 16:21-27

21 From that time forth began Jesus to show unto His disciples that He must go unto Jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Be it far from Thee, Lord; this shall not happen unto Thee." 23 But He turned and said unto Peter,

"Get thee behind Me, Satan! Thou art an offense unto Me; for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men."

24 Then Jesus said unto His disciples, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He shall reward every man according to his works.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 25:27

It is not good to eat much honey;
so also for men to search after their own glory is not glory.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 20:15a-16

Is thine eye evil, because I am good?' So the last shall be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen."
