The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Jeremiah 31:1-7, 10-14

1 "At the same time," saith the LORD, "will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people."

2 Thus saith the LORD: "The people who were left from the sword found grace in the wilderness,
even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest."

3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, "Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love;
therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
4 Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel;
thou shalt again be adorned with thy timbrels, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
5 Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria;
the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.
6 For there shall be a day that the watchmen upon Mount Ephraim shall cry, `Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God.'"

7 For thus saith the LORD: "Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations;
proclaim ye, praise ye, and say, `O LORD, save Thy people, the remnant of Israel.'

10 "Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say,
`He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd doth his flock.'
11 For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob,
and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.
12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD--
for wheat and for wine and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd;
and their soul shall be as a watered garden,
and they shall not sorrow any more at all.
13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together;
for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness,
and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness," saith the LORD.

Words of Worship - Luke 7:16b

"A great prophet is risen up among us"; and, "God hath visited His people."

Matthew 15:21-28

21 Then Jesus went thence and departed into the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same region and cried unto Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou Son of David! My daughter is grievously vexed with a devil." 23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and besought Him, saying, "Send her away, for she crieth after us." 24 But He answered and said,

"I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord help me." 26 But He answered and said,

"It is not meet to take children's bread and cast it to dogs."

27 And she said, "Truth, Lord; yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table." 28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her,

"O woman, great is thy faith. Be it unto thee even as thou wilt."

And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 23:17

Let not thine heart envy sinners,
but be thou in fear of the LORD all the day long.

"Or what man is there among you whom, if his son ask for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he ask for a fish, will give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in Heaven give good things to them that ask Him?
