The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Daniel 7:9-14

9 "I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of Days sat down, whose garment was white as snow and the hair of His head like the pure wool. His throne was like the fiery flame, and His wheels as burning fire. 10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him. Thousand thousands ministered unto Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

11 "I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke; I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed and given to the burning flame. 12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

13 "I saw in the night visions, and behold, one like the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. 14 And there was given Him dominion and glory and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Psalm 97

1 The LORD reigneth, let the earth rejoice!
Let the multitude of isles be glad thereof!
2 Clouds and darkness are round about Him;
righteousness and judgment are the habitation of His throne.
3 A fire goeth before Him,
and burneth up His enemies round about.
4 His lightnings enlightened the world;
 the earth saw and trembled.
5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD,
at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6 The heavens declare His righteousness,
and all the people see His glory.
7 Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols.
Worship Him, all ye gods!

8 Zion heard and was glad,
and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of Thy judgments, O LORD.
9 For Thou, LORD, art high above all the earth;
Thou art exalted far above all gods.

10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil!
He preserveth the souls of His saints; He delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
11 Light is sown for the righteous,
and gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous,
and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.

2 Peter 1:12-21

12 Therefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them and are strengthened in the present truth. 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance, 14 knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shown me. 15 Moreover I will endeavor that you may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when there came such a voice to Him from the Excellent Glory: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." 18 And this voice, which came from Heaven, we heard when we were with Him on the holy mount.

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy, unto which ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts, 20 knowing this first: that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in olden times by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Words of Worship - Matthew 17:5b

"THIS IS MY BELOVED SON IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED. HEAR YE HIM!"

Matthew 17:1-13

1 And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up onto a high mountain apart. 2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light. 3 And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him. 4 Then answered Peter and said unto Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If Thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles: one for Thee and one for Moses and one for Elijah."

5 While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud, said, "THIS IS MY BELOVED SON IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED. HEAR YE HIM!" 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were sore afraid. 7 And Jesus came and touched them and said,

"Arise, and be not afraid."

8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying,

"Tell the vision to no man until the Son of Man be risen again from the dead."

10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come?" 11 And Jesus answered and said unto them,

"Elijah truly shall first come and restore all things. 12 But I say unto you that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they pleased. Likewise shall also the Son of Man suffer by them."

13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke unto them of John the Baptist.

Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 9:9

And wisdom was with Thee, which knoweth Thy works, and was present when Thou madest the world,
and knew what was acceptable in Thy sight and right in Thy commandments.

But when Jesus heard that, He said unto them,

"They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
