The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Deuteronomy 6:4-15

4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD. 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words which I command thee this day shall be in thine heart; 7 and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them as a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.

10 "And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which He swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities which thou built not, 11 and houses full of all good things which thou filled not, and wells dug which thou dug not, vineyards and olive trees which thou planted not, when thou shalt have eaten and be full, 12 then beware lest thou forget the LORD who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve Him, and shalt swear by His name. 14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people who are round about you 15 (for the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you), lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

Psalm 18:1-6, 46-50

1 I will love Thee, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
my God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

4 The sorrows of death encompassed me,
and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about;
the snares of death lay before me.
6 In my distress I called upon the LORD
and cried unto my God;
He heard my voice out of His temple,
and my cry came before Him, even unto His ears.

46 The LORD liveth, and blessed be my Rock! And let the God of my salvation be exalted!
47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me;
48 He delivereth me from mine enemies. Yea, Thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me;
Thou hast delivered me from violent men.
49 Therefore will I give thanks unto Thee, O LORD, among the heathen,
and sing praises unto Thy name.

50 Great deliverance giveth He to His king and showeth mercy to His anointed,
to David and to his seed for evermore.

Words of Worship - 2 Timothy 1:10b

our Savior Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death and hath brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.

Matthew 17:14-23

14 And when they had come to the multitude, there came to Him a certain man, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is lunatic and sorely vexed; for ofttimes he falleth into the fire and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to Thy disciples, and they could not cure him." 17 Then Jesus answered and said,

"O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him hither to Me."

18 And Jesus rebuked the devil, and he departed out of him, and the child was cured from that very hour.

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart and said, "Why could we not cast him out?" 20 And Jesus said unto them,

"Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, `Remove hence to yonder place,' and it shall remove. And nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 However this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."

22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, "The Son of Man shall be betrayed into the hands of men. 23 And they shall kill Him, and the third day He shall be raised again."

And they were exceeding sorry.

Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 9:6

For though a man be never so perfect among the children of men,
yet if Thy wisdom be not with him, he shall be regarded as nothing.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 13:45-46

"Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
