The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 Kings 19:1-8

1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and also how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time." 3 And when he saw that, he arose and went for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is enough! Now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers." 5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him and said unto him, "Arise and eat." 6 And he looked, and behold, there was a cake baked on the coals and a cruse of water at his head. And he ate and drank, and lay down again. 7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for thee." 8 And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

Psalm 34

1 I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD;
the humble shall hear thereof and be glad.
3 O magnify the LORD with me,
and let us exalt His name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked unto Him and were lightened,
and their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him,
and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear Him,
and delivereth them.

8 O taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man that trusteth in Him!
9 O fear the LORD, ye His saints!
For them that fear Him suffer no want.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger,
but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 What man is he that desireth life,
and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil,
and thy lips from speaking guile.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous,
and His ears are open unto their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth,
and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart,
and saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
20 He keepeth all his bones;
not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall slay the wicked,
and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of His servants,
and none of them that trust in Him shall be desolate.

Ephesians 4:25-32

25 Therefore, putting away lying, let every man speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down on your wrath, 27 neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to use in edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice; 32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 5:1-7

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor. 3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let them not once be named among you, as becometh saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not befitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this ye know: that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words, for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be ye not therefore partakers with them.

Words of Worship - John 6:51

I am the living Bread which came down from Heaven. If any man eat of this Bread, he shall live for ever; and the Bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

John 6:41-51

41 The Jews then murmured at Him, because He said, "I am the Bread which came down from Heaven." 42 And they said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that he saith, `I came down from Heaven'?" 43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them,

"Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No man can come to Me unless the Father who hath sent Me draw him; and I will raise him up at the Last Day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: `And they shall all be taught by God.' Every man therefore that hath heard and hath learned from the Father cometh unto Me. 46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save He that is of God; He hath seen the Father. 47 Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth in Me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that Bread of Life. 49 Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the Bread which cometh down from Heaven, that a man may eat thereof and not die. 51 I am the living Bread which came down from Heaven. If any man eat of this Bread, he shall live for ever; and the Bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 23:22

Hearken unto thy father that begot thee,
and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 13:47-50

"Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a net that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind, which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
