The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Isaiah 9:2-7

2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light;
they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation and not increased the joy;
they joy before Thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For Thou hast broken the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder,
the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise and garments rolled in blood,
but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given;
and the government shall be upon His shoulder.
And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God,
The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end,
upon the throne of David and upon His Kingdom,
to order it and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Psalm 96

1 O sing unto the LORD a new song;
sing unto the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing unto the LORD, bless His name;
show forth His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the heathen,
His wonders among all people.
4 For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honor and majesty are before Him;
strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people;
give unto the LORD glory and strength.
8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name;
bring an offering, and come into His courts.
9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness;
fear before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the heathen
that the LORD reigneth;
the world also shall be established, that it shall not be moved;
He shall judge the people righteously.

11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein;
then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
13 before the LORD.
For He cometh, for He cometh to judge the earth;
He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth.

Titus 2:11-14

11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world, 13 looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous for good works.

Words of Worship - Luke 2:10-11

"Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:1-14

1 And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, unto the City of David which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and lineage of David) 5 to be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife, who was great with child. 6 And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward men!"

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 3:3-4

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee;
bind them about thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thine heart.
So shalt thou find favor and good understanding
in the sight of God and man.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 5:43-45

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, `Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy.' But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you, that ye may be the children of your Father who is in Heaven. For He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
