The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 John 2:3-11

3 And hereby we know that we know Him: if we keep His commandments. 4 He that saith, "I know Him," and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth His Word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. 6 He that saith that he abideth in Him, ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word which ye have heard from the beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is past and the true light now shineth. 9 He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. 10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him. 11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

Psalm 96:1-6

1 O sing unto the LORD a new song;
sing unto the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing unto the LORD, bless His name;
show forth His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the heathen,
His wonders among all people.
4 For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honor and majesty are before Him;
strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

Words of Worship - Luke 2:32

a light to lighten the Gentiles,
and the glory of Thy people Israel."

Luke 2:22-35

22 And when the days of her purification according to the Law of Moses were accomplished, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord: "Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord"), 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord: "A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons."

25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him after the custom of the law, 28 then he took Him up in his arms, and blessed God and said,

29 "Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word;
30 for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation,
31 which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people,
32 a light to lighten the Gentiles,
and the glory of Thy people Israel."

33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said unto Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be spoken against 35 (yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 2:17-18

They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts,
and humble their souls in His sight,
saying, "We will fall into the hands of the Lord, and not into the hands of men";
for as His majesty is, so is His mercy.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 6:9-13

In this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever.
Amen.
