The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Isaiah 2:1-5

1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

2 And it shall come to pass in the last days that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established on the top of the mountains,
and shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, "Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob;
and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths."
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And He shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore.

5 O house of Jacob, come ye
and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Psalm 122

1 I was glad when they said unto me, "Let us go into the house of the LORD."
2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.

3 Jerusalem is built as a city that is united together,
4 whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, according to the testimony of Israel to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.
5 For there are set thrones of judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
"They shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy walls
and prosperity within thy palaces."
8 For my brethren and companions' sakes I will now say, "Peace be within thee."
9 Because of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek thy good.

Words of Worship - Psalm 80:3

Turn us again, O God, and cause Thy face to shine,
and we shall be saved.

Matthew 8:5-12

5 And when Jesus had entered into Capernaum, there came unto Him a centurion, beseeching Him 6 and saying, "Lord, my servant lieth at home sick with the palsy and grievously tormented." 7 And Jesus said unto him,

"I will come and heal him."

8 The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldest come under my roof. But speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this man, 'Go!' and he goeth; and to another, `Come!' and he cometh; and to my servant, 'Do this!' and he doeth it." 10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled and said to those who followed,

"Verily I say unto you, I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel. 11 And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the Kingdom of Heaven. 12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 1:12

The fear of the Lord maketh a merry heart,
and giveth joy and gladness and a long life.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 4:7

"It is written again: `Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'"
