The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Genesis 3:8-24

8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God, walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam and said unto him, "Where art thou?" 10 And he said, "I heard Thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself." 11 And He said, "Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?" 12 And the man said, "The woman whom Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate." 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, "What is this that thou hast done?" And the woman said, "The serpent beguiled me, and I ate."

14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent,

"Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle,
and above every beast of the field.
Upon thy belly shalt thou go,
and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her Seed;
It shall bruise thy head,
and thou shalt bruise His heel."

16 Unto the woman He said,

"I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception.
In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children;
and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

17 And unto Adam He said,

"Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife,
and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, `Thou shalt not eat of it,'
cursed is the ground for thy sake;
in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee,
and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return unto the ground,
for out of it wast thou taken;
for dust thou art,
and unto dust shalt thou return."

20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat and live for ever"-- 23 therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden cherubims and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Psalm 98

1 O sing unto the LORD a new song, for He hath done marvelous things!
His right hand and His holy arm hath gotten Him the victory.
2 The LORD hath made known His salvation;
His righteousness hath He openly shown in the sight of the heathen.
3 He hath remembered His mercy and His truth toward the house of Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth!
Make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise!
5 Sing unto the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and the voice of a psalm.
6 With trumpets and sound of cornet
make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King!

7 Let the sea roar and the fullness thereof,
the world and they that dwell therein.
8 Let the floods clap their hands,
let the hills be joyful together 9 before the LORD.
For He cometh to judge the earth;
with righteousness shall He judge the world, and the people with equity.

Ephesians 1:1-14

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,

To the saints who are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ, even as 4 He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to be His own adopted children by Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in His Beloved: 7 in Whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, 8 wherein He hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence. 9 He hath made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth, even in Him.

11 In Christ also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will, 12 that we, who first trusted in Christ, should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Christ ye also trusted after ye heard the word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation, in Whom also after ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 which is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.

Words of Worship - Luke 1:28b

"Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women."

Luke 1:26-38

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her and said, "Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women." 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying and cast about in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, "Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God. 31 And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a Son, and shalt call His name JESUS. 32 He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David, 33 and He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His Kingdom there shall be no end."

34 Then said Mary unto the angel, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee. Therefore also that Holy Being who shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 36 And behold, thy cousin Elizabeth: she hath also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing shall be impossible." 38 And Mary said, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word." And the angel departed from her.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 1:20

Wisdom crieth without;
she uttereth her voice in the streets.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 5:10

Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
