from the The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons Malachi 3:1-6 1 "Behold, I will send My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me. And the LORD, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in. Behold, He shall come," saith the LORD of hosts. 2 "But who may abide the day of His coming? And who shall stand when He appeareth? For He is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap. And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. 4 Then shall the offering of Judah and of Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old and as in former years. 5 "And I will come near to you in judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers, and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, and those who turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not Me," saith the LORD of hosts. 6 "For I am the LORD, I change not. Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Psalm 24
Hebrews 2:14-18 14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same, that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death -- that is, the devil -- 15 and deliver those who all their lifetime were subject to bondage through fear of death. 16 For verily He took not on Himself the nature of angels, but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore in all things it behooved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself hath suffered, being tempted, He is able to succor those who are tempted. Luke 2:22-40 22 And when the days of her purification according to the Law of Moses were accomplished, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord: "Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord"), 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord: "A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons." 25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him after the custom of the law, 28 then he took Him up in his arms, and blessed God and said,
33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said unto Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be spoken against 35 (yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher. She was of great age and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, 37 and she was a widow of about fourscore and four years. She departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she, coming in that instant, gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee to their own city, Nazareth. 40 And the Child grew and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon Him.
