The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Jonah 3

1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, 2 "Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee." 3 So Jonah arose and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown." 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. 6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, "Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth and cry mightily unto God. Yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from His fierce anger, that we perish not?"

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God repented of the evil that He had said that He would do unto them, and He did it not.

Psalm 25

1 Unto Thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul;
2 O my God, I trust in Thee.
Let me not be ashamed;
let not mine enemies triumph over me.
3 Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed;
let them be ashamed that transgress without cause.

4 Show me Thy ways, O LORD;
teach me Thy paths.
5 Lead me in Thy truth and teach me,
for Thou art the God of my salvation;
on Thee do I wait all the day.

6 Remember, O LORD, Thy tender mercies and Thy lovingkindnesses;
for they have been ever of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions;
according to Thy mercy remember Thou me,
for Thy goodness' sake, O LORD.

8 Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore will He teach sinners in the way.
9 The meek will He guide in judgment,
and the meek will He teach His way.
10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,
unto them that keep His covenant and His testimonies.

11 For Thy name's sake, O LORD,
pardon mine iniquity, for it is great.
12 What man is he that feareth the LORD?
Him shall He teach in the way that He shall choose.
13 His soul shall dwell at ease,
and his seed shall inherit the earth.
14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear Him,
and He will show them His covenant.
15 Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD,
for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn Thee unto me and have mercy upon me,
for I am desolate and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged;
O bring Thou me out of my distresses.
18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain,
and forgive all my sins.
19 Consider mine enemies, for they are many;
they hate me with cruel hatred.
20 O keep my soul and deliver me;
let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in Thee.
21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait on Thee.

22 Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all his troubles!

1 Corinthians 7:29-31

29 But this I say, brethren: the time is short. It remaineth that those who have wives should be as though they had none; 30 and those who weep, as though they wept not; and those who rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and those who buy, as though they possessed not; 31 and those who use this world, as not abusing it. For the fashion of this world passeth away.

Words of Worship - Mark 1:15

"The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and believe the Gospel."

Mark 1:14-20

14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God 15 and saying,

"The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and believe the Gospel."

16 Now as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers. 17 And Jesus said unto them,

"Come ye after Me, and I will make you to become fishers of men."

18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed Him.

19 And when He had gone a little farther thence, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. 20 And straightway He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 2:13

Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly
as far as light excelleth darkness.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 10:25b-27

If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall  they call them of his household! Fear them not therefore, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and hid that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light; and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
