The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 John 3:11-21

11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning: that we should love one another. 12 Be not as Cain, who was of that wicked one and slew his brother. And why did he slay him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. 14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer, and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

16 Hereby we perceive the love of God: because He laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoso hath this world's goods and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up the compassion of his heart from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knoweth all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then we have confidence toward God.

Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands!
2 Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing!
3 Know ye that the LORD, He is God;
it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves.
We are His people,
and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise!
Be thankful unto Him, and bless His name!
5 For the LORD is good, His mercy is everlasting;
and His truth endureth to all generations.

John 1:43-51

43 The day following, Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and found Philip and said unto him,

"Follow Me."

44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said unto him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and the Prophets wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." 46 And Nathanael said unto him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said unto him, "Come and see." 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him,

"Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!"

48 Nathanael said unto Him, "How knowest Thou me?" Jesus answered and said unto him,

"Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee."

49 Nathanael answered and said unto Him, "Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God; Thou art the King of Israel." 50 Jesus answered and said unto him,

"Because I said unto thee, 'I saw thee under the fig tree,' believest thou? Thou shalt see greater things than these."

51 And He said unto him,

"Verily, verily I say unto you, hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 4:5-6

5 Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not,
neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee;
love her, and she shall keep thee.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 7:3-5

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, `Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye,' and behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
