The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Hosea 10:1-4, 9-14

1 Israel is an empty vine;
he bringeth forth fruit unto himself.
According to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars;
according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
2 Their heart is divided;
now shall they be found faulty.
He shall break down their altars;
He shall despoil their images.
3 For now they shall say, "We have no king, because we feared not the LORD.
What then should a king do to us?"
4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant;
thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

9 "O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah. There they stood. The battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them. 10 It is in My desire that I should chastise them, and the people shall be gathered against them when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows. 11 And Ephraim is as a heifer that is taught and loveth to tread out the corn, but I passed over upon her fair neck. I will make Ephraim to ride, Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods."

12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy, break up your fallow ground;
for it is time to seek the LORD, till He come and rain righteousness upon you.

13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity, ye have eaten the fruit of lies,
because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
14 Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be despoiled,
as Shalman despoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.

Psalm 105:1-15

1 O give thanks unto the LORD, call upon His name;
make known His deeds among the people.
2 Sing unto Him, sing psalms unto Him;
talk ye of all His wondrous works.
3 Glory ye in His holy name;
let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
4 Seek the LORD and His strength;
seek His face evermore.
5 Remember His marvelous works that He hath done,
His wonders and the judgments of His mouth,
6 O ye seed of Abraham, His servant,
ye children of Jacob, His chosen.

7 He is the LORD our God;
His judgments are over all the earth.
8 He hath remembered His covenant for ever,
the word which He commanded to a thousand generations,
9 which covenant He made with Abraham,
and His oath unto Isaac,
10 and confirmed the same unto Jacob as a law,
and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, "Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan,
the lot of your inheritance,"
12 when they were but a few men in number,
yea, very few and strangers in it.
13 When they went from one nation to another,
from one kingdom to another people,
14 He suffered no man to do them wrong;
yea, He reproved kings for their sakes,
15 saying, "Touch not Mine anointed,
and do My prophets no harm."

Words of Worship - Mark 1:15b

"The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and believe the Gospel."

Matthew 10:1-7

1 And when He had called unto Him His twelve disciples, He gave them power against unclean spirits to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: the first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.

5 These twelve Jesus sent forth and commanded them, saying, "Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not. 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, `The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.'

Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 4:7, 10, 14, 16a

But though the righteous dies untimely,
yet shall he be at rest.
He pleased God and was beloved by Him,
so that, living amongst sinners, he was translated.
For his soul pleased the Lord;
therefore hastened He to take him away from among the wicked.
Thus the righteous that is dead shall condemn the ungodly who are living;

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 7:9-11

"Or what man is there among you whom, if his son ask for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he ask for a fish, will give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in Heaven give good things to them that ask Him?
