The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
Amos 5:14-24
14 Seek good and not evil, that ye may live;
and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.
15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate.
It may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of
Joseph.
16 Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord saith
thus:
"Wailing shall be in all streets, and they shall say in all the highways,
`Alas! Alas!'
And they shall call the husbandman to mourning,
and such as are skillful in lamentation to wailing.
17 And in all vineyards shall be wailing,
for I will pass through thee," saith the LORD.
18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the
LORD! To what end is it for you? The day of the LORD is darkness, and not light: 19 as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit
him. 20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?
21 "I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell the scent in your solemn assemblies. 22 Though ye offer Me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not
accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. 23 Take thou away from Me the noise of thy songs, for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. 24 But let judgment run down like waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Psalm 50:1-15
1 The Mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken
and called the earth from the rising of the sun
unto the going down thereof.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath
shined.
3 Our God shall come and shall not keep silence;
a devouring fire shall go before Him, and it
shall be very tempestuous round about Him.
4 He shall call to the heavens from above and to
the earth,
that He may judge His people:
5 "Gather My saints together unto Me,
those that have made a covenant with Me by
sacrifice."
6 And the heavens shall declare His
righteousness,
for God Himself is judge.
7 "Hear, O My people, and I will speak,
O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am
God, even thy God.
8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices
or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually
before Me.
9 I will take no bullock out of thy house,
nor hegoats out of thy folds.
10 For every beast of the forest is Mine
and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
11 I know all the fowls of the mountains,
and the wild beasts of the field are Mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell thee,
for the world is Mine and the fullness thereof.
13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls,
or drink the blood of goats?
14 "Offer unto God thanksgiving,
and pay thy vows unto the Most High,
15 and call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify
Me."
Words of Worship - James 1:18
Of His own will, He begot us by the word of truth, that
we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
Matthew 8:28-34
28 And when He had come to the other side into
the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two possessed with devils, coming
out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. 29
And behold, they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with Thee, Jesus,
Thou Son of God? Art Thou come hither to torment us before the time?" 30
Now there was a good way off from them a herd of many swine feeding. 31 So the
devils besought Him, saying, "If Thou cast us out, suffer us to go away
into the herd of swine."
32 And He said to them,
"Go."
And when they had come out, they went into the
herd of swine, and behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep
place into the sea and perished in the waters. 33 And those who kept them fled
and went their ways into the city, and told everything and what had befallen the
ones possessed with the devils. 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet
Jesus. And when they saw Him, they besought Him that He would depart out of
their borders.
Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 22:1
A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,
and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

And if thy right eye
cause thee to fall, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is
profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not
that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
