The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Genesis 19:15-29

15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, "Arise, take thy wife and thy two daughters who are here, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city." 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife and upon the hand of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful unto him; and they brought him forth and set him outside the city. 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth outside, that he said, "Escape for thy life! Look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain. Escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed!" 18 And Lot said unto them, "Oh, not so, my lord. 19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shown unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die. 20 Behold now, this city is near enough to flee unto, and it is a little one. Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live." 21 And he said unto him, "See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city for which thou hast spoken. 22 Hasten thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou hast come thither." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire, from the LORD out of heaven; 25 and He overthrew those cities, and all the plain and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD; 28 and he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld. And lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when He overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

Psalm 26

1 Judge me, O LORD, for I have walked in mine integrity.
I have also trusted in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.
2 Examine me, O LORD, and test me;
try my reins and my heart.
3 For Thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes,
and I have walked in Thy truth.
4 I have not sat with vain persons,
neither will I consort with dissemblers.
5 I have hated the congregation of evildoers,
and will not sit with the wicked.
6 I will wash mine hands in innocence;
so will I compass Thine altar, O LORD,
7 that I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,
and tell of all Thy wondrous works.
8 LORD, I have loved the habitation of Thy house,
and the place where Thine honor dwelleth.
9 Gather not my soul with sinners,
nor my life with bloody men,
10 in whose hands is mischief,
and their right hand is full of bribes.
11 But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity;
redeem me and be merciful unto me.
12 My foot standeth on a level place;
in the congregations will I bless the LORD.

Words of Worship - Psalm 130:5

I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait,
and in His word do I hope.

Matthew 8:23-27

23 And when He had entered into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And behold, there arose a great tempest on the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves; but He was asleep. 25 And His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save us! We perish!" 26 And He said unto them,

"Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?"

Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marveled, saying, "What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 27:16

Whoso discloseth secrets loseth his credit
and shall never find a friend to his mind.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 6:9-13

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him. In this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever.
Amen.
