The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

2 Corinthians 4:7-18

7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For we who live are always being delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

13 We, having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written: "I believed and therefore have I spoken" -- we also believe and therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise us up also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that, through the thanksgiving of many, the abundant grace might redound to the glory of God.

16 For this cause we faint not, but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Psalm 126

1 When the LORD returned the captives to Zion,
we were like them that dream.
2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing.
Then said they among the heathen, "The LORD hath done great things for them."
3 The LORD hath done great things for us,
whereof we are glad.

4 Turn back our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the South.
5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed,
shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Words of Worship - John 15:16

Henceforth I call you not servants, for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard of My Father, I have made known unto you.

Matthew 20:17-28

17 And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples apart on the way and said unto them,

18 "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn Him to death, 19 and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify Him. And the third day, He shall rise again."

20 Then came to Him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshiping Him and desiring a certain thing of Him. 21 And He said unto her,

"What wilt thou?"

She said unto Him, "Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on Thy right hand and the other on the left in Thy Kingdom." 22 But Jesus answered and said,

"Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"

They said unto Him, "We are able." 23 And He said unto them,

"Ye shall drink indeed of My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared by My Father."

24 And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren. 25 But Jesus called them unto Him and said,

"Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you; but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 30:16

There are no riches above a sound body,
and no joy above the joy of the heart.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 10:25b-27

If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household! Fear them not therefore, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and hid that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light; and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
