Jeremiah 13:1-11

1 Thus saith the LORD unto me, "Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water." 2 So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD and put it on my loins. 3 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, 4 "Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates and hide it there in a hole of the rock." 5 So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me. 6 And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there." 7 Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and behold, the girdle was marred; it was profitable for nothing. 

8 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 9 "Thus saith the LORD: `In this manner will I mar the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10 This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and walk after other gods to serve them and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle which is good for nothing. 11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto Me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah,' saith the LORD, `that they might be unto Me as a people, and as a name, and as praise, and as glory; but they would not hear.'

Deuteronomy 32:16-21

16 They provoked Him to jealousy with strange gods;
with abominations provoked they Him to anger.
17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God, to gods whom they knew not,
to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.
18 Of the Rock that begot thee thou art unmindful,
and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

19 "And when the LORD saw it, He abhorred them,
because of the provoking of His sons and of His daughters.
20 And He said: `I will hide My face from them,
I will see what their end shall be;
for they are a very froward generation,
children in whom is no faith.
21 They have moved Me to jealousy with that which is not God;
they have provoked Me to anger with their vanities.
And I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people;
I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

Matthew 13:31-35

31 Another parable put He forth before them, saying, 

"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, 32 which indeed is the least of all seeds; but when it is grown it is the greatest among herbs and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof."

33 Another parable spoke He unto them:

"The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till the whole was leavened."

34 All these things spoke Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spoke He not unto them, 35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

"I will open My mouth in parables;
I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

And if a man love righteousness, her labors are virtues; for she teacheth temperance and prudence, justice and fortitude, which are such things as men can have nothing more profitable in their life.
