The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Genesis 18:16-33

16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. 17 And the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD to do justice and judgment, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which He hath spoken of him."

20 And the LORD said, "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, 21 I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which has come unto Me; and if not, I will know."

22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom; but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. 23 And Abraham drew near and said, "Wilt Thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Perhaps there be fifty righteous within the city; wilt Thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? 25 That be far from Thee to do in this manner -- to slay the righteous with the wicked; and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from Thee! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" 26 And the LORD said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes." 27 And Abraham answered and said, "Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, I, who am but dust and ashes. 28 Perhaps there shall lack five of the fifty righteous; wilt Thou destroy all the city for lack of five?" And He said, "If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it." 29 And he spoke unto Him yet again and said, "Perhaps there shall be forty found there?" And He said, "I will not do it for forty's sake." 30 And he said unto Him, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Perhaps there shall thirty be found there." And He said, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." 31 And he said, "Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Perhaps there shall be twenty found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for twenty's sake." 32 And he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Perhaps ten shall be found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for ten's sake." 33 And the LORD went His way, as soon as He had finished communing with Abraham; and Abraham returned unto his place.

Psalm 138

1 I will praise Thee with my whole heart;
before the gods will I sing praise unto Thee.
2 I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth,
for Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name.
3 In the day when I cried, Thou answered me,
and strengthened me with strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise Thee, O LORD,
when they hear the words of Thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing of the ways of the LORD,
for great is the glory of the LORD.
6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly,
but the proud He knoweth afar off.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
Thou wilt revive me;
Thou shalt stretch forth Thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies,
and Thy right hand shall save me.

8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me;
Thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever; forsake not the works of Thine own hands.

Colossians 2:12-14

12 Ye are buried with Him in baptism, wherein ye also are risen with Him through the faith wrought by the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us. He took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross;

Words of Worship - Romans 8:15b

...ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, "Abba! Father!"

Luke 11:1-13

1 And it came to pass that as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, one of His disciples said unto Him, "Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples." 2 And He said unto them,

"When ye pray, say:
Our Father who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done, as in Heaven, so on earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil."

5 And He said unto them,

"Which of you shall have a friend and shall go unto him at midnight and say unto him, `Friend, lend me three loaves, 6 for a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him'; 7 and he from within shall answer and say, `Trouble me not; the door is now shut and my children are with me in bed, and I cannot rise and give to thee'? 8 I say unto you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. 9 And I say unto you: ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth, and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 "If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the holy Spirit to them that ask Him?"

Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 6:18-20

And love is the keeping of her laws,
and the giving heed unto her laws is the assurance of incorruption;
and incorruption maketh us near unto God.
Therefore the desire for wisdom bringeth to a kingdom.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 6:24

"No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
