The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Genesis 28:10-22

10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 11 And he alighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, "I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father and the God of Isaac: The land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed. 14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west and to the east, and to the north and to the south; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of." 16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I knew it not." 17 And he was afraid and said, "How fearsome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven."

18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar and poured oil upon the top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel [that is, The house of God]; but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and raiment to put on, 21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then shall the LORD be my God. 22 And this stone which I have set for a pillar shall be God's house; and of all that Thou shalt give me I will surely give a tenth unto Thee."

Psalm 91

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress;
my God, in Him will I trust."
3 Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler
and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust;
His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night,
nor of the arrow that flieth by day,
6 nor of the pestilence that walketh in darkness,
nor of the destruction that layeth waste at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand,
but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold
and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, who is my refuge,
even the Most High, thy habitation,
10 there shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For He shall give His angels charge over thee
to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands,
lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder;
the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample underfoot.

14 "Because he hath set his love upon Me,
therefore will I deliver him;
I will set him on high,
because he hath known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him,
and show him My salvation."

Words of Worship - 2 Timothy 1:10

but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death and hath brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.

Matthew 9:18-26

18 While He spoke these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler and worshiped Him, saying, "My daughter is even now dead, but come and lay Thy hand upon her, and she shall live." 19 And Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.

20 And behold, a woman who was diseased with an issue of blood for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the hem of His garment; 21 for she said to herself, "If I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole." 22 But Jesus turned about, and when He saw her, He said,

"Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole."

And the woman was made whole from that hour.

23 And when Jesus came into the ruler's house and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, 24 He said unto them,

"Give way, for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth."

And they laughed Him to scorn. 25 But when the people were put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. 26 And the fame thereof went abroad throughout all the land.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 28:17

The stroke of the whip maketh marks in the flesh,
but the stroke of the tongue breaketh the bones.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 6:25-26

"Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
