The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Genesis 32:22-32

 22 And he [Jacob] rose up that night, and took his two wives and his two womenservants and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok. 23 And he took them and sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone, and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when the man saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint as he wrestled with him. 26 And the man said, "Let me go, for the day breaketh." And he said, "I will not let thee go, unless thou bless me." 27 And he said unto him, "What is thy name?" And he said, "Jacob." 28 And he said, "Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel; for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed." 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, "Tell me, I pray thee, thy name." And he said, "Why is it that thou dost ask after my name?" And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel [that is, The face of God]: "For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." 31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he limped upon his thigh. 32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.

Psalm 17

1 Hear the right, O LORD; attend unto my cry!
Give ear unto my prayer, which goeth not out of feigned lips.
2 Let my sentence come forth from Thy presence;
let Thine eyes behold things with equity.

3 Thou hast tested mine heart;
Thou hast visited me in the night;
Thou hast tried me and shalt find nothing;
I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
4 Concerning the works of men,
by the word of Thy lips I have been kept from the paths of the destroyer.
5 Uphold my goings in Thy paths,
that my footsteps slip not.

6 I have called upon Thee, for Thou wilt hear me, O God;
incline Thine ear unto me and hear my speaking.
7 Show Thy marvelous lovingkindness, O Thou that savest by Thy right hand them that put their trust in Thee
from those that rise up against them.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye;
hide me under the shadow of Thy wings,
9 from the wicked that oppress me,
from my deadly enemies who compass me about.
10 They are enclosed in their own fat;
with their mouth they speak proudly.
11 They have now encompassed us in our steps;
they have set their eyes, bowing down to the earth,
12 like a lion that is greedy for his prey,
even as a young lion lurking in secret places.

13 Arise, O LORD, disappoint them! Cast them down;
deliver my soul from the wicked by Thy sword,
14 from men which are Thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world that have their portion in this life,
and whose belly Thou fillest with Thy hid treasure:
They are full of children,
and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

15 As for me, I will behold Thy face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

Words of Worship - John 10:14

I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep and am known by Mine.

Matthew 9:27-38

27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed Him, crying and saying, "Thou Son of David, have mercy on us!" 28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him, and Jesus said unto them,

"Believe ye that I am able to do this?"

They said unto Him, "Yea, Lord." 29 Then He touched their eyes, saying,

"According to your faith, be it unto you."

30 And their eyes were opened, and Jesus strictly charged them, saying,

"See that no man know it."

31 But they, when they had departed, spread abroad His fame in all that country.

32 As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, dumb and possessed with a devil. 33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spoke; and the multitudes marveled, saying, "It was never so seen in Israel." 34 But the Pharisees said, "He casteth out the devils through the prince of the devils."

35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were faint and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then said He unto His disciples,

"The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest."

Words of Wisdom - Ezekiel 45:9

"'Thus saith the Lord GOD: Let it suffice you, O princes of Israel. Remove violence and spoil, and execute judgment and justice. Take away your exactions from My people, saith the Lord GOD.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 6:27-30a

"Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin, and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Therefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you,
