The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 Peter 4:7-13

7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober and watch unto prayer. 8 And above all things, have fervent charity among yourselves, for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak according to the oracles of God. If any man minister, let him do it according to the ability which God giveth, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you; 13 but rejoice inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Psalm 96

1 O sing unto the LORD a new song;
sing unto the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing unto the LORD, bless His name;
show forth His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the heathen,
His wonders among all people.
4 For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honor and majesty are before Him;
strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people;
give unto the LORD glory and strength.
8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name;
bring an offering, and come into His courts.
9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness;
fear before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the heathen
that the LORD reigneth;
the world also shall be established, that it shall not be moved;
He shall judge the people righteously.

11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein;
then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
13 before the LORD.
For He cometh, for He cometh to judge the earth;
He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth.

Words of Worship - John 15:16

Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain, that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it to you.

Mark 11:11-26

11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem and into the temple. And when He had looked round about upon all things, as now the eventide had come, He went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

12 And on the morrow, when they had come from Bethany, He was hungry; 13 and seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He might find any thing thereon. But when He came to it He found nothing but leaves, for the time for figs was not yet. 14 And Jesus spoke and said unto it,

"Let no man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever."

And His disciples heard it.

15 And they came to Jerusalem. And Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out those who sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who sold doves. 16 And He would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. 17 And He taught, saying unto them,

"Is it not written, `My house shall be called for all nations the house of prayer'? But ye have made it a den of thieves."

18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His doctrine. 19 And when evening had come, He went out of the city.

20 And in the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, calling to remembrance, said unto Him, "Master, behold, the fig tree which Thou cursed is withered away." 22 And Jesus answering, said unto them,

"Have faith in God. 23 For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, `Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea,' and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, what things so ever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. 25 And when ye stand praying, forgive if ye have aught against any, that your Father also who is in Heaven may forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in Heaven forgive your trespasses."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 22:1

A slothful man is compared to a filthy stone,
and every one will hiss him out to his disgrace.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Luke 14:8-10

"When thou art bidden by any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest place, lest a more honorable man than thou be bidden by him, and he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, `Give this man thy place,' and thou begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place, that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, `Friend, go up higher.' Then shalt thou have honor in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
