The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 Kings 18:41-46

41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, "Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain." 42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth and put his face between his knees, 43 and said to his servant, "Go up now, look toward the sea." And he went up and looked, and said, "There is nothing." And he said, "Go again," seven times. 44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, "Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand." And he said, "Go up, say unto Ahab, `Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.'" 45 And it came to pass in the meantime, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. 46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Psalm 65

1 Praise waiteth for Thee, O God, in Zion;
and unto Thee shall the vow be performed.
2 O Thou that hearest prayer,
unto Thee shall all flesh come.
3 Iniquities prevail against me;
as for our transgressions, Thou shalt purge them away.
4 Blessed is the man whom Thou choosest and causest to approach unto Thee,
that he may dwell in Thy courts.
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Thy house,
even of Thy holy temple.

5 By fearsome deeds of righteousness wilt Thou answer us, O God of our salvation,
who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth and of them that are afar off upon the sea,
6 who by His strength setteth fast the mountains, being girded with power,
7 who stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves and the tumult of the people.
8 They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at Thy signs;
Thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

9 Thou visitest the earth and waterest it; Thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water;
Thou preparest them corn when Thou hast so provided it.
10 Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly, Thou settlest the furrows thereof;
Thou makest it soft with showers, Thou blessest the sprouting thereof.
11 Thou crownest the year with Thy goodness,
and Thy paths drip with fatness.
12 They drip upon the pastures of the wilderness,
and the little hills rejoice on every side.
13 The pastures are clothed with flocks,
the valleys also are covered over with corn.
They shout for joy,
they also sing.

Words of Worship - John 13:34

A new commandment I give unto you: that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Matthew 5:21-26

21 "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old, `Thou shalt not kill,' and `Whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.' 22 But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, `Raca,' shall be in danger of the council; but whosoever shall say, `Thou fool,' shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee, 24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way. First be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 "Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art on the way with him, lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. 26 Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence until thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and keep His commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.
For God shall bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing,
whether it be good or whether it be evil.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 5:25-26

"Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art on the way with him, lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence until thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
