The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

2 Corinthians 11:1-11

1 Would to God you could bear with me a little in my folly -- and indeed you do bear with me. 2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy; for I have espoused you to one Husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit which ye have not received, or another gospel which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 5 For I consider myself not a whit lower than the very chiefest apostles. 6 Though I am rude in speech, yet I am not in knowledge; for we have been made thoroughly manifest among you in all things. 7 Have I committed an offense in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the Gospel of God without charge? 8 I robbed other churches, taking wages from them to do you service. 9 And when I was present with you and was in want, I was burdensome to no man, for that which I lacked the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied; and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome to you, and so will I keep myself.

10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me from this boasting in the regions of Achaia. 11 Why so? Because I love you not? God knoweth!

Psalm 111

1 Praise ye the LORD!
I will praise the LORD with my whole heart in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.
2 The works of the LORD are great,
sought out by all them that have pleasure therein.
3 His work is honorable and glorious,
and His righteousness endureth for ever.
4 He hath made His wonderful works to be remembered;
the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
5 He hath given meat unto them that fear Him;
He will ever be mindful of His covenant.
6 He hath shown His people the power of His works,
that He may give them the heritage of the heathen.

7 The works of His hands are verity and judgment;
all His commandments are sure.
8 They stand fast for ever and ever,
and are done in truth and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption unto His people;
He hath commanded His covenant for ever; holy and reverend is His name.

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
a good understanding have all they that do His commandments. His praise endureth for ever!

Words of Worship - Romans 8:15b

...ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, "Abba! Father!"

Matthew 6:7-15

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him. 9 In this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
10 Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 20:20

Whoso curseth his father or his mother,
his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 5:25-26

"Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art on the way with him, lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence until thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
