The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

2 Chronicles 24:17-27

17 Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them. 18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served Asherah poles and idols; and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass. 19 Yet He sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them, but they would not give ear.

20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said unto them, "Thus saith God: 'Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? Because ye have forsaken the LORD, He hath also forsaken you.'" 21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD. 22 Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, "The LORD look upon it, and require it."

23 And it came to pass at the end of the year that the host of Syria came up against him; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil unto the king of Damascus. 24 For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

25 And when they had departed from him (for they left him with grave diseases), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died. And they buried him in the City of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchers of the kings. 26 And these are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess. 27 Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

Psalm 89:1-37

1 I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever;
with my mouth will I make known Thy faithfulness to all generations.
2 For I have said, "Mercy shall be built up for ever;
Thy faithfulness shalt Thou establish in the very heavens."

3 "I have made a covenant with My chosen,
I have sworn unto David My servant:
4 'Thy Seed will I establish for ever,
and build up thy throne to all generations.'"

5 And the heavens shall praise Thy wonders, O LORD,
Thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
6 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD?
Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?
7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
and to be held in reverence by all them that are about Him.

8 O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto Thee?
Or to Thy faithfulness round about Thee?
9 Thou rulest the raging of the sea;
when the waves thereof arise, Thou stillest them.
10 Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain;
Thou hast scattered Thine enemies with Thy strong arm.
11 The heavens are Thine, the earth also is Thine;
as for the world and the fullness thereof, Thou hast founded them.
12 The north and the south, Thou hast created them;
Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in Thy name.
13 Thou hast a mighty arm;
strong is Thy hand, and high is Thy right hand.
14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of Thy throne;
mercy and truth shall go before Thy face.

15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound!
They shall walk, O LORD, in the light of Thy countenance.
16 In Thy name shall they rejoice all the day,
and in Thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
17 For Thou art the glory of their strength,
and in Thy favor our horn shall be exalted.
18 For the LORD is our defense,
and the Holy One of Israel is our King.

19 Then Thou didst speak in a vision to Thy holy one and said, "I have laid help upon one that is mighty;
I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
20 I have found David My servant;
with My holy oil have I anointed him.
21 With him My hand shall be established;
Mine arm shall also strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not exact from him,
nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
23 And I will beat down his foes before his face,
and plague them that hate him.
24 But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him,
and in My name shall his horn be exalted.
25 I will set his hand also over the sea,
and his right hand over the rivers.
26 He shall cry unto Me, `Thou art my Father,
my God, and the rock of my salvation.'
27 Also I will make him My firstborn,
higher than the kings of the earth.
28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore,
and My covenant shall stand fast with him.
29 His Seed also will I make to endure for ever,
and his throne as the days of heaven.
30 If his children forsake My law and walk not in My judgments,
31 if they break My statutes and keep not My commandments,
32 then will I visit their transgression with the rod
and their iniquity with stripes.
33 Nevertheless My lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him,
nor permit My faithfulness to fail.
34 My covenant will I not break,
nor alter the things which have gone out of My lips.
35 Once have I sworn by My holiness
that I will not lie unto David.
36 His Seed shall endure for ever,
and his throne as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established for ever as the moon,
and as a faithful witness in the heaven."

Words of Worship - 2 Corinthians 8:9

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.

Matthew 6:24-34

24 "No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

25 "Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 "Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin, 29 and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Therefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `Wherewith shall we be clothed?' 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek.) For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 "Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Words of Wisdom - Jeremiah 3:22

"Return, ye backsliding children,
and I will heal your backslidings."

"Behold, we come unto Thee, for Thou art the LORD our God.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 5:46-48

For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in Heaven is perfect.
