The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

For there is not a word on my tongue,
but lo, O LORD, Thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before,
and laid Thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7 Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit?
Or whither shall I flee from Thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there;
if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me,"
even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from Thee, but the night shineth as the day;
the darkness and the light are both alike to Thee.

13 For Thou hast possessed my reins;
Thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
marvelous are Thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from Thee when I was made in secret,
and intricately wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance,
yet being imperfect;
and in Thy book all my members were written,
which in continuity were fashioned, when as yet there were none of them.

17 How precious also are Thy thoughts unto me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand;
when I awake, I am still with Thee.

19 Surely, Thou wilt slay the wicked, O God.
Depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 For they speak against Thee wickedly,
and Thine enemies take Thy name in vain.
21 Do I not hate them, O LORD, that hate Thee?
And am I not grieved with those that rise up against Thee?
22 I hate them with perfect hatred;
I count them mine enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
try me, and know my thoughts.
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Acts 13:13-26

13 Now when Paul and his company cast loose from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem. 14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. 15 And after the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, "Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on."

16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said: "Men of Israel and ye that fear God, give audience! 17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm He brought them out of it. 18 And for about forty years, He suffered their ways in the wilderness. 19 And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He divided their land among them by lot. 20 And after that, He gave unto them judges for about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. 21 And afterward they desired a king, and God gave unto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years. 22 And when He had removed him, He raised up unto them David to be their king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, `I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after Mine own heart, who shall fulfill all My will.' 23 Of this man's seed hath God, according to His promise, raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus. 24 John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 25 And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, `Whom think ye that I am? I am not He. But behold, there cometh One after me, the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.'

26 "Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

Words of Worship - Luke 1:76

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest;
for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,

Luke 1:57-66, 80

57 Now Elizabeth's full time came that she should be delivered, and she brought forth a son. 58 And her neighbors and her kindred heard how the Lord had shown great mercy upon her, and they rejoiced with her. 59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 60 But his mother answered and said, "Not so, but he shall be called John." 61 And they said unto her, "There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name." 62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. 63 And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, saying, "His name is John." And they marveled all. 64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke and praised God. 65 And fear came on all who dwelt round about them; and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judea. 66 And all those who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, "What manner of child shall this be?" And the hand of the Lord was with him.

80 And the child grew and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts until the day of his appearing unto Israel.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 20:29

The glory of young men is their strength,
and the beauty of old men is the gray head.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 5:38-39

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, `An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say unto you that ye resist not evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
