The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
1 Kings 17:1-6
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto
Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall
not be dew nor rain these years, except according to my word." 2 And the
word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 3 "Get thee hence and turn thee
eastward, and hide thyself by the Brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan. 4
And it shall be that thou shalt drink of the brook, and I have commanded the
ravens to feed thee there." 5 So he went and did according unto the word of
the LORD; for he went and dwelt by the Brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.
6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh
in the evening; and he drank from the brook.
Psalm 121
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my
help!
2 My help cometh from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not permit thy foot to be moved; He that keepeth thee will
not slumber.
4 Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper;
the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil;
He shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in
from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Words of Worship - Matthew 5:12a
Rejoice and be
exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven;
Matthew 5:1-12
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up onto a mountain; and
when He was set, His disciples came unto Him. 2 And He opened His mouth and
taught them, saying,
3 "Blessed are the poor
in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness,
for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
11 Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12 Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven;
for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you
Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 11:5
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones grow
in the womb of her that is with child,
even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

And He said,
"A certain man had two sons. And the
younger of them said to his father, `Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me.' And he divided unto them his estate. And not many days
after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far
country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he
had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land, and he began to be in
want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, who sent
him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly
with the husks that the swine ate, and no man gave unto him. And when he
came to himself, he said, `How many hired servants of my father's have bread
enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my
father and will say unto him, "Father, I have sinned against Heaven and
before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. Make me as one of
thy hired servants."' And he arose and came to his father. But when he
was yet a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and
fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said unto him, `Father, I have
sinned against Heaven and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy
son.' But the father said to his servants, `Bring forth the best robe and
put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet. And bring
hither the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this
my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they
began to be merry.
"Now his elder son was in the field;
and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. And
he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. And he
said unto him, `Thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatted
calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.' And he was angry and
would not go in; therefore came his father out and entreated him. And he
answering said to his father, `Lo, these many years have I served thee,
neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest
me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. But as soon as this thy
son was come who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for
him the fatted calf.' And he said unto him, `Son, thou art ever with me,
and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry and be
glad; for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is
found.'"
