The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

2 Corinthians 1:1-7

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in all Achaia:

2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

Psalm 34

11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 What man is he that desireth life,
and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil,
and thy lips from speaking guile.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous,
and His ears are open unto their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth,
and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart,
and saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
20 He keepeth all his bones;
not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall slay the wicked,
and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of His servants,
and none of them that trust in Him shall be desolate.

Words of Worship - Matthew 5:12

Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven;
for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:1-12

1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up onto a mountain; and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him. 2 And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying,

3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness,
for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
11 Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12 Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven;
for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 11:5

As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones grow in the womb of her that is with child,
even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 5:6-9

Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness,
for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called the children of God.
