The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Jeremiah 7:21-28

21 "`Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices and eat flesh. 22 For I spoke not unto your fathers nor commanded them, in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. 23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, "Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be My people; and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you." 24 But they hearkened not nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward. 25 Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day, I have even sent unto you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them. 26 Yet they hearkened not unto Me nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck; they did worse than their fathers.' 27 "Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them, but they will not hearken to thee; thou shalt also call unto them, but they will not answer thee. 28 But thou shalt say unto them, `This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction. Truth has perished and is cut off from their mouth.

Psalm 95

1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD!
Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms.
3 For the LORD is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
the strength of the hills is His also.
5 The sea is His, and He made it;
and His hands formed the dry land.

6 O come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
7 For He is our God,
and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.

Today, if ye will hear His voice:
8 "Harden not your heart as in the provocation,
and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness
9 when your fathers tempted Me, proved Me,
and saw My work.
10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation,
and said `It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known My ways.'
11 Unto them I swore in My wrath,
that they should not enter into My rest."

Words of Worship - Joel 2:12-13

"Therefore also now," saith the LORD, "turn ye even to Me with all your heart,
and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning."
And rend your heart, and not your garments,
and turn unto the LORD your God;
for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness,
and repenteth of the evil.

Luke 11:14-23

14 And He was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass when the devil had gone out, the dumb one spoke; and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, "He casteth out devils through Beelzebub, the chief of the devils." 16 And others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from Heaven. 17 But He, knowing their thoughts, said unto them,

"Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. 18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand -- because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub? 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore shall they be your judges. 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, doubt not the Kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace. 22 But when one stronger than he shall come upon him and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 23 He that is not with Me, is against Me; and he that gathereth not with Me, scattereth.

Prosperity and adversity, life and death,
poverty and riches, come from the Lord.

"'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: `Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
