The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Isaiah 65:17-25

17 "For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create;
for behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My people;
and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days,
nor an old man that hath not filled his days;
for the child shall die a hundred years old;
but the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed.
21 And they shall build houses and inhabit them;
and they shall plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them.
22 They shall not build and another inhabit;
they shall not plant and another eat;
for as the days of a tree are the days of My people,
and Mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
23 They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth for trouble;
for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer;
and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock; and dust shall be the serpent's meat.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain," saith the LORD."

Psalm 30

1 I will extol Thee, O LORD, for Thou hast lifted me up,
and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
2 O LORD my God, I cried unto Thee,
and Thou hast healed me.
3 O LORD, Thou hast brought up my soul from the grave;
Thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye His saints,
and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.
5 For His anger endureth but a moment, and in His favor is life;
weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

6 And in my prosperity I said,
"I shall never be moved."
7 LORD, by Thy favor Thou hast made my mountain to stand strong;
when Thou didst hide Thy face, I was troubled.
8 I cried to Thee, O LORD;
and unto the LORD I made supplication:
9 "What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit?
Shall the dust praise Thee? Shall it declare Thy truth?
10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me;
LORD, be Thou my helper!"

11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing;
Thou hast put off my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,
12 to the end that my glory may sing praise to Thee and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto Thee for ever.

Words of Worship - Amos 5:14

Seek good and not evil, that ye may live;
and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

John 4:43-54

43 Now after two days He departed thence and went into Galilee. 44 For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet hath no honor in his own country. 45 Then when He had come into Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did at Jerusalem at the feast; for they also had gone to the feast.

46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto Him and besought Him that He would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 Then Jesus said unto him,

"Unless ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe."

49 The nobleman said unto Him, "Sir, come down ere my child die!" 50 Jesus said unto him,

"Go thy way; thy son liveth."

And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, "Thy son liveth!" 52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he began to be healed. And they said unto him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus had said unto him, "Thy son liveth." And he himself believed, and his whole house.

54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 5:13-15

There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely: riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.
But those riches perish by evil travail; and when he begetteth a son, there is nothing in his hand.

As he came forth from his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came,
and shall take nothing of his labor which he may carry away in his hand.

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
