Ezekiel 47:1-12

1 Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house, and behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward; for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. 2 Then he brought me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way outside unto the outer gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side. 3 And when the man who had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. 4 Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. 5 Afterward he measured a thousand, and it was a river that I could not pass over; for the waters had risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. 6 And he said unto me, "Son of man, hast thou seen this?" Then he brought me and caused me to return to the brink of the river. 

7 Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. 8 Then said he unto me, "These waters issue out toward the east country and go down into the desert and go into the sea, which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. 9 And it shall come to pass that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live. And there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither; for they shall be healed, and every thing shall live whither the river cometh. 10 And it shall come to pass that the fishers shall stand upon it from En-gedi even unto En-eglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets. Their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the Great Sea, exceeding many. 11 But the miry places thereof and the marshes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt. 12 And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed. It shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters issued out of the sanctuary; and the fruit thereof shall be for meat and the leaf thereof for medicine."

Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore will we not fear though the earth be removed,
and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea,
3 though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,
though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God,
the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, and that right early.
6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

8 Come, behold the works of the LORD,
what desolations He hath made on the earth.
9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; He breaketh the bow and cutteth the spear in sunder;
He burneth the chariot with fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted on the earth.
11 The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

John 5:1-18

1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a great multitude of invalid folk -- blind, halt, withered -- waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the water. Whosoever then first stepped in, after the troubling of the water, was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. 5 And a certain man was there who had an infirmity for thirty and eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been in that state a long time, He said unto him,

"Wilt thou be made whole?"

7 The infirm man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me." 8 Jesus said unto him,

"Rise, take up thy bed, and walk."

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked.

Now it was the Sabbath on that day. 10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, "It is the Sabbath day; it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed." 11 He answered them, "He that made me whole said unto me, `Take up thy bed and walk.'" 12 Then they asked him, "What man is that who said unto thee, `Take up thy bed and walk'?" 13 And he that was healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had removed Himself away, a multitude being in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said unto him,

"Behold, thou art made whole. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee."

15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole.

16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus and sought to slay Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath day. 17 But Jesus answered them,

"My Father worketh hitherto, and I work."

18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
