The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Daniel 3:26-30

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spoke and said, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the Most High God, come forth and come hither." Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came forth from the midst of the fire. 27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was a hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed nor had the smell of fire passed onto them. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I make a decree that every people, nation, and language which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut in pieces and their houses shall be made a dunghill, because there is no other God who can deliver in this way." 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

Song of the Three Holy Children 1-20

1 And they walked in the midst of the fire, praising God and blessing the Lord. 2 Then Azariah stood up and prayed in this manner and, opening his mouth in the midst of the fire, said:

3 "Blessed art Thou, O Lord, God of our fathers;
Thy name is worthy to be praised and glorified for evermore.
4 For Thou art righteous in all the things that Thou hast done to us;
yea, true are all Thy works, Thy ways are right, and all Thy judgments truth.
5 In all the things that Thou hast brought upon us,
and upon the holy city of our fathers, even Jerusalem,
Thou hast executed true judgment; for according to truth and judgment
didst Thou bring all these things upon us because of our sins.
6 For we have sinned and committed iniquity,
departing from Thee.
7 In all things have we trespassed, and not obeyed Thy commandments, nor kept them,
neither done as Thou hast commanded us, that it might go well with us.
8 Therefore all that Thou hast brought upon us, and every thing that Thou hast done to us,
Thou hast done in true judgment.
9 And Thou didst deliver us into the hands of lawless enemies, most hateful forsakers of God,
and to an unjust king, and the most wicked in all the world.
10 And now we cannot open our mouths;
we are become a shame and reproach to Thy servants and to them that worship Thee.

11 "Yet deliver us not up wholly, for Thy name's sake,
neither disannul Thou Thy covenant.
12 And cause not Thy mercy to depart from us,
for Thy beloved Abraham's sake, for Thy servant Issac's sake, and for Thy holy Israel's sake,
13 to whom Thou hast spoken and promised that Thou wouldest multiply their seed as the stars of heaven,
and as the sand that lieth upon the seashore.
14 For we, O Lord, have become less than any nation,
and are kept low this day in all the world because of our sins.
15 Neither is there at this time prince, or prophet, or leader, or burnt offering, or sacrifice, or oblation, or incense,
or place to sacrifice before Thee and to find mercy.

16 "Nevertheless with a contrite heart and a humble spirit let us be accepted.
17 As in the burnt offerings of rams and bullocks,
and as in ten thousands of fat lambs,
so let our sacrifice be in Thy sight this day;
and grant that we may wholly go after Thee,
for they shall not be confounded that put their trust in Thee.

18 "And now we follow Thee with all our heart;
we fear Thee and seek Thy face.
19 Put us not to shame;
but deal with us in Thy lovingkindness and according to the multitude of Thy mercies.
20 Deliver us also according to Thy marvelous works, and give glory to Thy name, O Lord;
and let all them that do Thy servants hurt be ashamed;

Psalm 25:1-10

1 Unto Thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul;
2 O my God, I trust in Thee.
Let me not be ashamed;
let not mine enemies triumph over me.
3 Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed;
let them be ashamed that transgress without cause.

4 Show me Thy ways, O LORD;
teach me Thy paths.
5 Lead me in Thy truth and teach me,
for Thou art the God of my salvation;
on Thee do I wait all the day.

6 Remember, O LORD, Thy tender mercies and Thy lovingkindnesses;
for they have been ever of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions;
according to Thy mercy remember Thou me,
for Thy goodness' sake, O LORD.

8 Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore will He teach sinners in the way.
9 The meek will He guide in judgment,
and the meek will He teach His way.
10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,
unto them that keep His covenant and His testimonies.

Words of Worship - Joel 2:12-13

"Therefore also now," saith the LORD, "turn ye even to Me with all your heart,
and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning."
And rend your heart, and not your garments,
and turn unto the LORD your God;
for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness,
and repenteth of the evil.

Matthew 18:21-35

21 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?" 22 And Jesus said unto him,

"I say not unto thee, until seven times, but until seventy times seven.

23 "Therefore is the Kingdom of Heaven likened unto a certain king who would settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But inasmuch as he could not pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down and did homage to him, saying, `Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.' 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred pence. And he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, `Pay me what thou owest.' 29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, `Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.' 30 And he would not, but went and cast him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after he had called him, said unto him, `O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me. 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?' 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall My heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother's trespasses."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 5:10

He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver,
nor he that loveth abundance with increase. This is also vanity.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 21:28-32

"But what think ye? A certain man had two sons. And he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in my vineyard.' 29 He answered and said, 'I will not,' but afterward he repented and went. 30 And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I go, sir,' and went not. 31 Which of those two did the will of his father?"

They said unto Him, "The first." Jesus said unto them,

"Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the Kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and harlots believed him. And ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
