The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
Jeremiah 18:18-20
18 Then said they, "Come, and let us devise devices against
Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from
the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with
the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."
19 Give heed to me, O LORD,
and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit
for my soul.
Remember that I stood before Thee to speak good for them, and to
turn away Thy wrath from them.
Psalm 31:1-16
1 In Thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never
be ashamed;
deliver me in Thy righteousness.
2 Bow down Thine ear to me, deliver me speedily;
be Thou my strong rock, a house of defense to save me.
3 For Thou art my rock and my fortress;
therefore for the sake of Thy name, lead me and guide me.
4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me,
for Thou art my strength.
5 Into Thine hand I commit my spirit;
Thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
6 I have hated them that have regard for lying
vanities;
but I trust in the LORD.
7 I will be glad and rejoice in Thy mercy,
for Thou hast considered my trouble. Thou hast known my soul in
adversities,
8 And hast not delivered me into the hands of the enemy;
Thou hast set my feet in a large room.
9 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble;
mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. 10 For
my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing;
my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are
consumed.
11 I am a reproach among all mine enemies,
but especially among my neighbors,
and a fear to mine acquaintances;
they that see me in the streets flee from me.
12 I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind;
I am like a broken vessel.
13 For I have heard the slander of many;
fear was on every side;
while they took counsel together against me,
they schemed to take away my life.
14 But I have trusted in Thee, O LORD;
I said, "Thou art my God."
15 My times are in Thy hand;
deliver me from the hand of mine enemies and from them that
persecute me.
16 Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant;
save me for Thy mercies' sake.
Words of Worship - John 8:12b
"I am the Light of
the world. He that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall
have the light of life."
Matthew 20:17-28
17 And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took
the twelve disciples apart on the way and said unto them,
18
"Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man shall be
betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall
condemn Him to death, 19 and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock
and to scourge and to crucify Him. And the third day, He shall rise
again."
20 Then came to Him the mother of
Zebedee's children with her sons, worshiping Him and desiring a certain
thing of Him. 21 And He said unto her,
"What wilt
thou?"
She said unto Him, "Grant that these
my two sons may sit, the one on Thy right hand and the other on the left
in Thy Kingdom." 22 But Jesus answered and said,
"Ye know
not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink
of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"
They said unto Him, "We are
able." 23 And He said unto them,
"Ye shall
drink indeed of My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine
to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared by My
Father."
24 And when the ten heard it, they were
moved with indignation against the two brethren. 25 But Jesus called
them unto Him and said,
"Ye know
that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they
that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so
among you; but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your
minister; 27 and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your
servant, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but
to minister, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 5:2-3
Be not rash with thy mouth,
and let not thine heart be hasty to utter anything before God.
For God is in heaven and thou upon earth:
therefore let thy words be few.
For a dream cometh through a multitude of business,
and a fool's voice is known by a multitude of words.

Morals & Values - Matthew 18:9

And if thine eye cause thee to
fall, pluck it out and cast it from thee; it is
better for thee to enter into life with one eye,
rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell
fire.
