The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Exodus 3:1-20

1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the back side of the desert and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses." And he said, "Here am I." 5 And He said, "Draw not nigh hither. Put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground." 6 Moreover He said, "I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

7 And the LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. 8 And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites, and the Amorites and the Perizzites, and the Hivites and the Jebusites. 9 Now therefore behold, the cry of the children of Israel hath come unto Me, and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." 11 And Moses said unto God, "Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?" 12 And He said, "Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee that I have sent thee: when thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain."

13 And Moses said unto God, "Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel and shall say unto them, `The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you,' and they shall say to me, `What is His name?' what shall I say unto them?" 14 And God said unto Moses, "I AM THAT I AM." And He said, "Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, `I AM hath sent me unto you.'" 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, "Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: `The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob hath sent me unto you.' This is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations. 16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, `The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob appeared unto me, saying, "I have surely visited you and seen that which is done to you in Egypt; 17 and I have said I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites, and the Amorites and the Perizzites, and the Hivites and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey."' 18 And they shall hearken to thy voice; and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, `The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us; and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.' 19 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand. 20 And I will stretch out My hand and smite Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in the midst thereof; and after that he will let you go.

Psalm 103:15-22

15 As for man, his days are as grass;
as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone;
and the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him,
and His righteousness unto children's children,
18 to such as keep His covenant,
and to those that remember His commandments to do them.

19 The LORD hath prepared His throne in the heavens,
and His Kingdom ruleth over all.
20 Bless the LORD, ye His angels that excel in strength,
that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word.
21 Bless ye the LORD, all ye His hosts,
ye ministers of His, that do His pleasure.
22 Bless the LORD, all His works, in all places of His dominion.
Bless the LORD, O my soul!

1 Corinthians 10:1-14

1 Moreover, brethren, I would not have ye ignorant of how all of our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2 and all were baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 And all ate the same spiritual meat, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with many of them God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." 8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed -- and three and twenty thousand fell in one day. 9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted -- and were destroyed by serpents. 10 Neither should ye murmur, as some of them also murmured -- and were destroyed by the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened unto them by way of example, and are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 12 Therefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken hold of you but such as is common to man. But God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond that which ye are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

14 Therefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

Words of Worship - Matthew 4:17

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say,

"Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."

Luke 13:1-9

1 There were present at that season some who told Him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said unto them,

"Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, nay; but unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen upon whom the tower of Siloam fell and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all other men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, nay; but unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

6 He spoke also this parable:

"A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the keeper of his vineyard, `Behold, these three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down. Why cumbereth it the ground?' 8 And he answering said unto him, `Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig around it and dung it. 9 And if it bear fruit, well; and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.'"

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 12:2

A good man obtaineth favor of the LORD,
but a man of wicked devices will He condemn.

Is thine eye evil, because I am good?' So the last shall be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen."
