The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Genesis 12:1-4a

1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, "Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee. 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing. 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee; and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken unto him, and Lot went with him;

Psalm 33

1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous!
For praise is comely for the upright.
2 Praise the LORD with the harp;
sing unto Him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing unto Him a new song;
play skillfully with a loud noise.
4 For the word of the LORD is right,
and all His works are done in truth.
5 He loveth righteousness and judgment;
the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made,
and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap;
He layeth up the deep in storehouses.

8 Let all the earth fear the LORD;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9 For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.

10 The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought;
He maketh the devices of the people of no effect.
11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever,
the thoughts of His heart to all generations.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance.

13 The LORD looketh down from heaven;
He beholdeth all of the sons of men.
14 From the place of His habitation
He looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashioneth the hearts of all;
He considereth all their works.

16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
17 A horse is a vain thing for safety;
neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear Him,
upon them that hope in His mercy,
19 to deliver their soul from death,
and to keep them alive in famine.

20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD;
He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
because we have trusted in His holy name.
22 Let Thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us,
according as we hope in Thee.

2 Timothy 1:8-14

8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner; but be thou a partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the power of God, 9 who hath saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but in accordance with His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death and hath brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. 11 For this I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles, 12 for which cause I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed. For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that Day.

13 Hold fast to the form of sound words, which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee, keep, by the Holy Ghost who dwelleth in us.

Words of Worship - Matthew 17:5

While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud, said, "THIS IS MY BELOVED SON IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED. HEAR YE HIM!"

Matthew 17:1-9

1 And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up onto a high mountain apart. 2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light. 3 And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him. 4 Then answered Peter and said unto Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If Thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles: one for Thee and one for Moses and one for Elijah."

5 While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud, said, "THIS IS MY BELOVED SON IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED. HEAR YE HIM!" 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were sore afraid. 7 And Jesus came and touched them and said,

"Arise, and be not afraid."

8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying,

"Tell the vision to no man until the Son of Man be risen again from the dead."

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 12:22

Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD,
but they that deal truly are His delight.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Luke 5:37-39

And no man putteth new wine into old wineskins; else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins shall perish. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. No man also, having drunk old wine, straightway desireth new; for he saith, `The old is better.'"
