The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Acts 1:1-14

1 In the former treatise, O Theophilus, I have given an account of all that Jesus began both to do and teach 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He had given commandments through the Holy Ghost unto the apostles, whom He had chosen. 3 To these also He showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen by them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father,

"which," saith He, "ye have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."

6 When they therefore had come together, they asked of Him, saying, "Lord, wilt Thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?" 7 And He said unto them,

"It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father hath put in His own power. 8 But ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

9 And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven."

12 Then they returned unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a Sabbath day's journey. 13 And when they had come in, they went up in to an upper room where abode both Peter and James, and John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the brother of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brethren.

Psalm 47

1 O clap your hands, all ye people!
Shout unto God with the voice of triumph!
2 For the LORD Most High is to be feared;
He is a great King over all the earth.
3 He shall subdue the people under us,
and the nations under our feet.
4 He shall choose our inheritance for us,
the excellency of Jacob whom He loved.

5 God has gone up with a shout,
the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises unto our King, sing praises!
7 For God is the King of all the earth;
sing ye praises with understanding.

8 God reigneth over the heathen;
God sitteth upon the throne of His holiness.
9 The princes of the people are gathered together,
even the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong unto God;
He is greatly exalted.

Ephesians 1:15-23

15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, 20 which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. 22 And God hath put all things under His feet, and hath given Him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all.

Words of Worship - Matthew 28:19, 20b

Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,
And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."

Matthew 28:11-20

11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the guards came into the city and reported unto the chief priests all the things that were done. 12 And when they were assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave a large sum of money unto the soldiers, 13 saying, "Say ye, `His disciples came by night and stole him away while we slept.' 14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him and secure you." 15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught; and this account is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee onto a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying,

"All power is given unto Me in Heaven and on earth. 19 Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 9:11

I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift,
nor the battle to the strong,
neither yet bread to the wise,
nor yet riches to men of understanding,
nor yet favor to men of skill;
but time and chance happeneth to them all.

"But woe unto you, Pharisees! For ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of
herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God. These ought ye to have
done, and not left the other undone.
